As matter of fact, when I was Vice President, I used to like to take the train home because my mom was very sick and dying, and I\u2019d come home every weekend to make sure I\u2019d take the train home. And Secret Service \u2014 and I\u2019m not criticizing them \u2014 legitimately would rather me fly because it\u2019s safer, because too many people can get on and off, et cetera,\u201d the president said, according to an official White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2021\/10\/25\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-build-back-better-and-the-bipartisan-infrastructure-deal\/\">transcript.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m getting on one Friday, and then one of the senior guys on Amtrak, Angelo Negri \u2014 I got to know all the conductors really well; they became my friends. I mean, really, my genuine friends. I have them in my home at Christmas and during the summer. And Ang walks up to me and goes, \u2018Joey, baby!\u2019 Grabs my cheek. And I thought the Secret Service was going to blow his head off. I swear to God. True story,\u201d Biden continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018No, no, he\u2019s a friend.\u2019 I said, \u2018What\u2019s up, Ang?\u2019 He said, \u2018Joey, I read in the paper \u2014 I read in the paper you traveled 1,000 \u2014 1,200,000 miles on Air Force planes\u2019 \u2014 because they keep meticulous tabs of it. I said, \u2018Yeah.\u2019 He said, \u2018Big\u2026\u2019 \u2014 I won\u2019t say the whole thing \u2014 \u2018Big deal.\u2019 He said, \u2018You know how many miles you traveled on Amtrak, Joey?\u2019 And I said, \u2018No.\u2019 He said, \u2018The boys and I figured it out at the retirement dinner.\u2019 He says, \u2018You travel 2 million\u2026\u2019 \u2014 I think it was 180, but \u2014 \u20182,200,000 miles,&#8217;\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018How did you get that answer?\u2019 He said, \u2018Well, 267 miles a day. He died in May 2014.And CNN previously said there is another problem with the tale: \u201cBiden at least hinted that the encounter with Negri occurred when he was commuting to Delaware because his mother was dying. But Biden\u2019s mother, Catherine Eugenia \u2018Jean\u2019 Finnegan Biden, died in early 2010, more than five years before her son hit the million-miles-flown mark.\u201dAnd the network said in June that \u201cBiden\u2019s account simply does not add up.
