In June, the White House took action against five specific Chinese entities known for being involved in forced labor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions demonstrate our commitment to imposing additional costs on the People\u2019s Republic of China (PRC) for engaging in cruel and inhumane forced labor practices and ensuring that Beijing plays by the rules of fair trade as part of the rules-based international order,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/06\/24\/fact-sheet-new-u-s-government-actions-on-forced-labor-in-xinjiang\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">White House fact sheet<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has been taking a harder line against the widespread human rights violations in China, particularly as the abuse of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/save-people-oppression-uyghur-women-recall-abuses-suffered-chinese-concentration-camps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uyghurs<\/a> has continued to make international headlines. In March, the U.S. joined the European Union in imposing sanctions on China to protest the abuses in Xinjiang, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/03\/22\/980090541\/u-s-joins-eu-in-sanctions-against-china-over-treatment-of-uyghur-muslims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-trending\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<p>Trending:<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cancel-culture-comes-nfl-announcer-tony-romo-air-joke-tom-bradys-wife\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-trending\">Cancel Culture Comes for NFL Announcer Tony Romo After On-Air Joke About Tom Brady&#8217;s Wife<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe United States is committed to playing a strong leadership role in global efforts to combat serious human rights abuse, through the Global Magnitsky sanctions program and similar efforts. Targeted sanctions, including against those who violate or abuse human rights, are an important tool to discourage malign actors and promote accountability,\u201d Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/promoting-accountability-for-human-rights-abuse-with-our-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet despite the United States\u2019 stand against China\u2019s human rights violations, upon a closer look, Kerry\u2019s private equity fund, Hillhouse China Value Fund L.P., has investments in companies that are connected to labor and human suppression.<\/p>\n<p>Hillhouse is a top shareholder in Yitu Technology, which helped create facial recognition systems for the Chinese government to use to track Uyghurs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe facial recognition technology, which is integrated into China\u2019s rapidly expanding networks of surveillance cameras, looks exclusively for Uighurs based on their appearance and keeps records of their comings and goings for search and review,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/04\/14\/technology\/china-surveillance-artificial-intelligence-racial-profiling.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> reported in 2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\" readability=\"6.2862745098039\">\n<p>Should John Kerry have investments in China?<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-results\">\n<p>\nYes: 0% (0 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNo: 0% (0 Votes)\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hillhouse also invested in LONGi Green, an energy technology manufacturer, in December, according to the Free Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>LONGi Green produces solar panels and is a major player in U.S. solar technology imports. In the first two quarters of 2021, LONGi accounted for 25 percent of U.S. solar technology imports from China, <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2021\/09\/01\/china-solar-industry-xinjiang\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foreign Policy<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>LONGi acquires materials from companies linked to others on Biden\u2019s blacklist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe PRC\u2019s use of forced labor in Xinjiang is an integral part of its systematic abuses against the Uyghur population and other ethnic and religious minority groups, and addressing these abuses will remain a high priority for the Biden-Harris administration,\u201d the&nbsp;White House said in its June fact sheet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe systematic abuses go beyond forced labor to include sexual violence and large-scale forced detentions, and the PRC continues to commit genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"in-article-related\" class=\"in-article-more inner-content\">\n<p>Related:<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-more-right\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/john-kerry-admits-biden-literally-not-aware-transpired-us-enraged-ally-stab-back\/\" data-type=\"Internal link\" data-type-location=\"in-content-related\">John Kerry Admits Biden &#8216;Literally Had Not Been Aware of What Had Transpired&#8217; When US Enraged Ally with &#8216;Stab in the Back&#8217;<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Kerry family, however, has had investments in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/diplomat-cusp-exposing-china-un-silenced-mic-begins-acting-odd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China<\/a> for years.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/05\/04\/kerry-and-wife-invested-in-chinese-company-that-exploits-represses-tibet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Caller News Foundation<\/a> reported that Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz, held investments in 12 companies in China. At the time, there was controversy over the investments possibly having influence over Kerry\u2019s decisions as secretary of State.<\/p>\n<p>But the State Department said there was no real interference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary Kerry is not a beneficiary of these trusts, and Mrs. Heinz Kerry also exercises no control over the investment decisions made by the independent trustees,\u201d a department spokesman told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>One of the companies that Heinz was invested in, however, did have ties to Tibetan repression.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with Kerry\u2019s questionable investments, the integrity of his decision-making as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/house-republicans-attempt-hold-china-accountable-covid-since-biden-democrats-no-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;special presidential envoy for climate (particularly to China) is in question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJohn Kerry appears to have profited from a company tied to egregious human rights abuses in Xinjiang. Now it makes sense why he is actively working against my Uyghur Forced Labor Act,\u201d Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida told the Free Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut this is bigger than Kerry. A climate deal cannot make our nation complicit to the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s slave labor practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked in a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing earlier in the year about his role in dealing with China and the climate, Kerry said that dealing with the issues of Chinese human rights violations was not within his purview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not my lane.
