Yes, you are. Here, in the United States, Nike stands with Black Lives Matter. Nike stands with Stop Asian Hate. Nike stands with the Latino community. And Nike stands with the LGBTQ community \u2026 But when it comes to China, Nike remains silent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou do not address [police brutality] in China, you do not speak about discrimination against the LGBTQ community, you do not say a word about the oppression of minorities in China. You are scared to speak up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kanter went on to claim that Nike\u2019s products are produced by forced labor, specifically Uyghur forced labor.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/asia_pacific\/china-compels-uighurs-to-work-in-shoe-factory-that-supplies-nike\/2020\/02\/28\/ebddf5f4-57b2-11ea-8efd-0f904bdd8057_story.html\">reported<\/a> that Chinese authorities had forced hundreds of ethnic Uyghurs from the country\u2019s western Xinjiang region to work in a shoe factory that supplies Nike. A Nike spokesperson told the outlet that the company\u2019s suppliers are \u201cstrictly prohibited from using any type of prison, forced, bonded or indentured labor,\u201d and the company later said the factory in question <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/11\/29\/business\/economy\/nike-coca-cola-xinjiang-forced-labor-bill.html\">stopped<\/a> hiring new workers from Xinjiang in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho makes your shoes in China? Do you even know? There are so many forced labor factories in China,\u201d Kanter said. \u201cFor instance, Uyghur forced labor. A modern-day slavery. And it is happening right now in China \u2026\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you know that almost the entire apparel and footwear industry is tainted by Uyghur forced labor? Many well-known global brands are implicated,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd yes, that includes one of the NBA\u2019s biggest sponsors, Nike. Nike claims that they do not allow any forced labor in their supply chains.
