We\u2019ve been in this business for a long time and I had never heard of a scenario like this. It really caught me by surprise,\u201d said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office upon the grim discovery.<\/p>\n<p>Houston authorities are now investigating a possible case of child neglect and even homicide. The Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office reported finding three children, reportedly a 15-year-old, a 10-year-old and a seven-year-old abandoned and living alongside human remains during a welfare check on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The department said the oldest sibling had called the department to let them know his 9-year-old brother had been dead for a year and that their parents hadn\u2019t lived in the apartment for several months. Skeletal remains were found in the apartment.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sheriff Ed Gonzalez updating media at 3535 Green Crest. At the same time, we also have the skeletal remains of what appears to be a juvenile,\u201d said Gonzalez. \u201cIt appears to have been there for also an extended period of time. We don\u2019t know how long, that will be part of the forensic investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff said the two younger children appeared to be malnourished and have physical injuries, adding it\u2019s unclear if they had been attending school. All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The remains, believed to belong to the children\u2019s sibling, will be examined by a coroner in order to confirm the identity and cause of death. Police have located the kids\u2019 mother and her boyfriend and brought them in for questioning, but they have since been released.
