If you met him once you made a friend for life,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFriends\u201d co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/10\/24\/us\/james-michael-tyler-died-friends\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> in a statement that Tyler was a \u201cgenuinely kind, sweet man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he started as an extra on \u2018Friends,\u2019 his unique spirit caught our eye and we knew we had to make him a character,\u201d the statement read. \u201cHe made Gunther\u2019s unrequited love incredibly relatable.
