It notes that if a government \u201cwithholds or denies relief from the impacts of climate change\u201d to people who \u201cshare a protected characteristic in a manner and to a degree amounting to persecution,\u201d then these individuals could also be \u201celigible for refugee status.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"6.9491525423729\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">USAID contributed to the new <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WhiteHouse?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WhiteHouse<\/a> report on the Impact of Climate Change on Migration. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Climatechange?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Climatechange<\/a> is a factor in growing levels of global migration &amp; the U.S. is leading efforts to address impacts: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MvtZdYLGHJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/MvtZdYLGHJ<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/l4agyPBrle\">pic.twitter.com\/l4agyPBrle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 USAID (@USAID) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USAID\/status\/1451260034185236493?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 21, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report goes on to discuss actions for the U.S. government to consider in addressing the relationship between climate change and migration, including considering claims based on \u201cclimate change activism\u201d and situations where individuals may not be granted governmental relief from climate change\u2019s impact.<\/p>\n<p>The suggested actions also urge the U.S. government to develop a secondary report focusing on climate change\u2019s impact on migration within the U.S., specifically highlighting densely populated areas and those experiencing sharp climate change. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/07\/climate-change-illegal-border-crossings-department-of-homeland-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: DHS Says Climate Change Will Lead To More Illegal Border Crossings)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The report follows a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/how-biden-has-misled-americans-about-the-situation-at-the-southern-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">surge<\/a> of migrants at the U.S. southern border, with border officials encountering <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/how-biden-has-misled-americans-about-the-situation-at-the-southern-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">210,000 migrants<\/a> in July, challenging historical trends.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden ordered the report in February, after signing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/02\/04\/executive-order-on-rebuilding-and-enhancing-programs-to-resettle-refugees-and-planning-for-the-impact-of-climate-change-on-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">executive order<\/a> that focused in-part on rebuilding and expanding the United States Refugee Admissions Program.
