Biden began by suggesting he wouldn\u2019t discuss the issue because getting into such a \u201cdebate\u201d would immediately cost him \u201cat least three votes\u201d regarding his economic and foreign policy plans. Biden has been focused on getting his Build Back Better <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/29\/joe-biden-build-back-better-agenda-costs-zero-dollars-economists-less-convinced\/\">Agenda<\/a> and the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed.<\/p>\n<p>Biden then said he would support re-installing a requirement \u201cimmediately\u201d that would make lawmakers hold the floor for a filibuster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I also think we\u2019re going to have to move to the point where we fundamentally alter the filibuster,\u201d the president added. \u201cThe idea that, for example, my Republican friends say that we\u2019re going to default on the national debt because they\u2019re going to filibuster that, and we need ten Republicans to support us is the most bizarre thing ever heard. I think you\u2019re going to see \u2013 if it gets pulled again you\u2019ll see an awful lot of Democrats being ready to say \u2018not me. I\u2019m not doing that again. We\u2019re going to end the filibuster.\u2019 But it still is difficult to end the filibuster beyond that. That\u2019s another issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut are you saying once you get this current agenda passed on spending and social programs, that you would be open to fundamentally altering the filibuster or doing away with it?\u201d Cooper pressed. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/21\/don-lemon-biden-town-hall-debate-filibuster\/\">(RELATED:&nbsp;\u2018Let Me Finish My Answer\u2019: Don Lemon Turns Biden Town Hall Into Debate Over The Filibuster)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biden said it \u201cremains to be seen exactly what that means in terms of fundamentally altering it\u201d and noted that there are \u201ccertain things that are just sacred rights.\u201d When pressed on whether voting rights would be enough for Biden to be willing to do away with the filibuster, the president confirmed it would be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd maybe more,\u201d Biden added.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s comments are largely symbolic, as the president doesn\u2019t have a vote on the issue, but it\u2019s still important.
