Joe Manchin (D-WV) made the remarks in relation to a push from Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) to reach a deal on the framework of the bill by the end of this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not going to happen anytime soon, guys,\u201d Manchin <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/577834-manchin-negotiators-to-miss-friday-target-for-deal-on-reconciliation\">told<\/a> reporters. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of work to do, everybody\u2019s working hard, everybody\u2019s communicating, working hard. A lot of meetings going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manchin said that while he thinks his party is \u201cmaking good progress,\u201d he believes that talks will extend well beyond Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of details. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has told associates that he is considering leaving the Democratic Party if President Joe Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill do not agree to his demand to cut the size of the social infrastructure bill from $3.5 trillion to $1.75 trillion, according to people who have heard Manchin discuss this. Manchin has said that if this were to happen, he would declare himself an \u201cAmerican Independent.\u201d And he has devised a detailed exit strategy for his departure. \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He told associates that he has a two-step plan for exiting the party.
