Colin Powell, former secretary of state and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, died by suicide.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVOM-R7h5XO\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" readability=\"-8.2068965517241\"><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span>Verdict: False<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Powell passed away due to COVID-19 complications.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVOM-R7h5XO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video<\/a> shows a headline alleging \u201cColin Powell Committed Suicide\u201d and then proceeds to scroll through the story beneath it. In the article, it attempts to claim Powell died by suicide via prescription medication and to accuse President Joe Biden\u2019s administration and \u201cits media cohorts\u201d of lying about Powell\u2019s cause of death.<\/p>\n<p>Powell, 84, passed away Monday due to \u201ccomplications from Covid 19,\u201d his family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GenPowell\/posts\/10159730388391719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> in a post on his verified Facebook account. Though Powell was fully vaccinated against COVID-19, he suffered from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that causes a weakened immune system and that has been found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41375-021-01354-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a study<\/a> to reduce the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in those who have it, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/10\/18\/colin-powell-suffered-from-a-cancer-that-makes-covid-vaccine-less-effective.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>. He also had Parkinson\u2019s, which can increase a person\u2019s risk of severe COVID-19,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/colin-powell-covid-vaccine-multiple-myeloma-cancer-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBS News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2021\/10\/colin-powell-committed-suicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> shown in the Instagram video comes from Real Raw News. On its <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cAbout Us\u201d page<\/a>, Real Raw News states that its website \u201ccontains humor, parody, and satire.\u201d The video being shared on Instagram, however, does not make clear the claim came from a website with such a Disclaimer. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/12\/31\/fact-check-colin-powell-say-defense-secretary-court-martial-michael-flynn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Colin Powell Say That If He Was The Defense Secretary, He Would Court-Martial Michael Flynn?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Social media posts have previously made inaccurate claims that originated from Real Raw News articles.
