The requirement will affect around 160,500 city employees, and the announcement added that 71% of the employees who will be under the mandate have already gotten at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At the end of the statement, the city added that it \u201cwill begin impact bargaining with affected unions immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Unions have started pushing back against the announcement about the mandate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFrom the beginning of the de Blasio administration\u2018s haphazard vaccine rollout, we have fought to make the vaccine available to every member who chooses it, while also protecting their right to make that personal medical decision in consultation with their own doctor,\u201d Pat Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycpba.org\/press-releases\/2021\/pba-statement-on-vaccine-mandate\/\">said<\/a> in a statement, \u201cNow that the city has moved to unilaterally impose a mandate, we will proceed with legal action to protect our members\u2019 rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">President of the Detectives\u2019 Endowment Association, Paul DiGiacomo, also <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-health-police-new-york-new-york-city-9b0f72ad57fc9264794fcd45eb10dde2\">said<\/a>, \u201cOur union will fight just as hard as we did to ensure members could get the vaccine as we will to ensure they\u2019re not mandated to do it.
