Police also found evidence that he exaggerated numbers to obtain pandemic relief money.<\/p>\n<p>The city government has no power to force a council member out of office, but Jeffrey will forfeit his seat if he is convicted and has exhausted all his appeals, the <i>Roanoke Times<\/i>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/roanoke.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/roanoke-council-asks-jeffrey-to-consider-taking-leave-he-declines\/article_f6a1df58-308e-11ec-b2a9-77474b5ad8db.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Roanoke vice mayor Trish White-Boyd (D.) said in an interview that Jeffrey is &#8220;impeding council with his presence.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Democratic member of the Roanoke, Va., city council is refusing to step down even after he was indicted for multiple felonies.
