The New York Democrat plans to begin debate on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/2747\/text\">Freedom to Vote Act<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last night, I began the process for the Senate to hold a vote on the Freedom to Vote Act.<\/p>\n<p>It would fortify our democracy, protect the vote, and renew the American people\u2019s trust in our elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate will vote tomorrow on moving forward on this bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1450507558628827140?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 19, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The act is similar to the failed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1\/text\">For the People Act<\/a>, though it includes voter ID compromises for West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin. Schumer\u2019s latest proposal would take away a state\u2019s right to map out their own congressional districts and allow for mass mail-in balloting nationwide. While many say it\u2019 s a Democrat wish list, Schumer has called it a compromise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill is a compromise, but a good one. It\u2019s a bill that every Senate Democrat is united behind, enthusiastically.
