The rider instructs the producers of the 64th annual awards show to \u201crecruit and hire more diverse candidates backstage and in front of the camera,\u201d from demographic groups \u201cthat have been historically and systematically excluded from the industry.\u201d The rider was initially <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/entertainment-music-arts-and-entertainment-grammy-awards-9fd5080fa9546b12d180c5d50424f136\">adopted<\/a> in August, after Frances McDormand mentioned it during her acceptance speech for best actress at the Oscars.<\/p>\n<p>Harvey Mason Jr., the CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed pride in the initiative and hope that it would \u201cmove the needle\u201d within the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe inclusion rider is something that will provide an opportunity for people that may not have had one before,\u201d said Mason in an interview. \u201cThat\u2019s really important to me. I wouldn\u2019t be here if someone didn\u2019t give me an opportunity.
