Since then, a total of&nbsp;more than two dozen children have come forward with accusations of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHilton [Central School District] emailed parents saying that former principal Kirk Ashton has been released from jail,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WendyMillsTV\/status\/1450264228233895942?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1450264228233895942%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fspectrumlocalnews.com%2Fnys%2Frochester%2Fpublic-safety%2F2021%2F10%2F18%2Fformer-northwood-elementary-principal-kirk-ashton-posts-bail\">reported<\/a> Spectrum News\u2019 Wendy Mills. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDistrict says it will have additional security outside Northwood [Elementary School] Tuesday and that counselors will be available for students and staff,\u201d Mills added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been informed that former Northwood Principal, Kirk Ashton, was released from jail today,\u201d read the email, signed by&nbsp;Hilton Central School District Superintendent Casey Kosiorek, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochesterfirst.com\/news\/local-news\/kirk-ashton-former-hilton-principal-charged-with-sex-abuse-to-be-released-on-bail\/\">according<\/a> to News 8 WROC. \u201cThe district will have additional security present outside Northwood tomorrow. In addition, I will be there, along with other administrators from District Office. We will also have several additional counseling staff available for students and staff throughout the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The office of Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley released a statement Tuesday, \u201cIn anticipation of his (Ashton\u2019s) release, the Greece Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office are aware of the situation and will be monitoring closely,\u201d the statement <a href=\"https:\/\/13wham.com\/news\/local\/hilton-principal-accused-of-abusing-students-has-posted-bail\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe Monroe County District Attorney\u2019s Office is prepared to bring this case to trial as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ashton posted $100,000 bail \u2014 an amount that has been reduced numerous times since his arrest, WHAM 13 News <a href=\"https:\/\/13wham.com\/news\/local\/former-hilton-principal-accused-of-sexually-abusing-students-back-in-court\">outlined<\/a> last month:<\/p>\n<p><em>In July, Ashton\u2019s attorney argued for his $250,000 bail to be reduced, saying he only had access to $20,000 in personal funds and can\u2019t draw on the $600,000 he has in retirement finances. His attorney requested it be reduced to $20,000, but the judge settled on $175,000, while also stipulating Ashton be subject to electronic home monitoring.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Friday (September 17), the judge reduced Ashton\u2019s cash bail to $100,000 and the bond to $175,000.<\/p>\n<p>The News 8 WROC report added that the principal resigned in September after pleading not guilty to a total of 25 charges. They have to go through a divorce proceeding and allocate that money appropriately, so he does not have what the people claim he does.\u201dAssistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck argued in September that Ashton is a flight risk.\u201cIt\u2019s only grown stronger as the list and number of child victims have come forward and (he has) been indicted,\u201d the assistant district attorney said. \u201cWe feel that the more victims, the more charges, the more notoriety of this defendant, it makes him a higher flight risk.\u201dAccording to WHAM 13 News, Ashton will\u00a0be set up with electronic home monitoring and will have to surrender his passport.
