unvaccinated travelers not travel to visit family this holiday season until they get their COVID shot.<\/p>\n<p>In new holiday travel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/daily-life-coping\/holidays\/celebrations.html\">guidance<\/a> released on Friday, the agency said that \u201cCDC still recommends delaying travel until you are&nbsp;fully vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe fully expect that families and friends will gather for the holidays this year and we have updated our guidance on how to best to stay safe over the holidays,\u201d the CDC said Friday in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHoliday traditions are important for families and children,\u201d the agency said in its 2021 holiday guidance. \u201cBecause many generations tend to gather to celebrate holidays, the best way to minimize COVID-19 risk and keep your family and friends safer is to get vaccinated if you\u2019re eligible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You should also protect those not eligible for the vaccine, like young children, by getting those around them vaccinated, the CDC said.<\/p>\n<p>Unvaccinated people who \u201cmust\u201d travel are advised to take extra precautions including getting tested for COVID before and after travel, self-quarantining for at least a week after travel, self-monitoring for symptoms, and wearing a mask.<\/p>\n<p>If you will be traveling with unvaccinated people, the CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/travel-risk.html\">recommends<\/a> choosing \u201csafer travel options,\u201d including keeping road trips short with few stops, taking flights with fewer layovers, not staying in hotels with common areas, and not \u201cvisiting an unvaccinated family member\u2019s or friend\u2019s home.\u201d If you are gathering with people from multiple households from different parts of the country, you should also consider taking extra precautions, the agency said,<\/p>\n<p>Those who are not fully vaccinated should wear face masks in \u201cpublic indoor settings,\u201d the CDC said. \u201cEven those who are fully vaccinated should wear a mask in public indoor settings in communities with substantial to high transmission,\u201d the agency added, saying, \u201coutdoors is safer than indoors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People with weakened immune systems may not be fully protected even if they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster dose, the CDC warned, saying those people should \u201ccontinue to take all precautions recommended for unvaccinated people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren between the ages of 2 and 12 should wear a mask in public spaces and around people they don\u2019t live with,\u201d but children
