Joe Manchin said the White House must include a work requirement and family income cap at $60,000 if President Joe Biden wants the child tax credit expansion to pass, Axios reported Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/06\/biden-child-tax-credit-democrats-permanent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pushing to expand<\/a> monthly child tax credits permanently as part of their spending package despite little public support.<\/p>\n<p>Biden signed the coronavirus relief package in March, expanding the payments beginning in July and lasting through July of 2022. Under the plan, families receive $300 monthly for each child under the age of six and $250 for a child between the age of six and 17.<\/p>\n<p>A recent Politico\/Morning Consult <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=0000017c-5391-db91-affd-fb99cc8c0000&amp;nname=playbook&amp;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&amp;nrid=0000014e-f115-dd93-ad7f-f91513e50001&amp;nlid=630318\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a> found 52% of those polled do not think the child tax credits should be extended.<\/p>\n<p>Families with young children could receive up to $3,600 per year with the credits, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/scoop-manchins-red-lines-f9f5f7f7-56d8-4bf6-8345-13abb75ef03f.html?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_content=politics-childtaxcredit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Axios<\/a>. But the expansion of the credit also extended the benefit to families without taxable income. I sure am trying to help the children,\u201d Manchin said in September while on CNN, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/manchin-suggests-work-requirement-for-biden-child-tax-credit-2021-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Insider<\/a>. \u201cYou want to help the children and the parents that are basically providing for those children. There\u2019s no work requirements whatsoever. There\u2019s no education requirements whatsoever for better skill sets. Don\u2019t you think, if we\u2019re going to help the children, that the people should make some effort?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manchin and Democratic Arizona <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/how-joe-manchin-kyrsten-sinema-fare-in-their-own-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyrsten Sinema<\/a> are the only two Democrats that have expressed opposition to Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/07\/democrats-all-in-budget-joe-biden-congressional-majorities-passage-far-from-certain-budget-reconciliation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$3.5 trillion spending package<\/a>, engaging in a months-long standoff with the party\u2019s left wing members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic West Virginia Sen.
