Ron DeSantis (R-FL) called inflation \u201can invisible tax on the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The remarks come as year-over-year inflation in the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-consumer-prices-inflation-prices-e80c0c24a6ec5ca1c977eccd6294d01b\">surges<\/a> to 5.4% \u2014 and as Amy Baker, coordinator of the Florida legislature\u2019s Office of Economic and Demographic Research, tells lawmakers that high inflation is transitory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhenever you flood that much money into the economy, it always has some perverse effects with it, but that would be transitory, too,\u201d she recently <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/464781-inflation-employment-pains-on-watch-as-florida-continues-besting-economic-projections\/\">testified<\/a> to members of the Florida legislature. \u201cI believe within the year we should see it come back to some more normal, stable level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an October 15 press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wesh.com\/article\/gov-desantis-to-deliver-update-from-naples\/37973029\">conference<\/a> in Naples, Florida, DeSantis asserted that inflation is more pervasive than most economists are willing to admit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis inflation is real. Likewise, 46% of those with fixed income investments worry that low interest rates will impact their retirement income.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/thanks-to-inflation-american-wages-drop-by-nearly-2\">confirm<\/a> that the average American\u2019s real wage is falling due to inflation. The agency recently reported that \u201caverage hourly earnings\u201d in the United States increased by 3.6% between June 2020 and June 2021. However, when considering inflation \u2014 specifically through the Consumer Price Index, which rose by 5.3% over the same period \u2014 \u201creal average hourly earnings\u201d diminished by 1.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-chief-of-staff-agrees-inflation-a-high-class-problem\">alleged<\/a> that rising inflation is only a \u201chigh-class problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jason Furman \u2014 a Harvard University professor and former chair of the Obama administration\u2019s Council of Economic Advisers \u2014 tweeted: \u201cMost of the economic problems we\u2019re facing (inflation, supply chains, etc.) are high-class problems.
