(Photo by MANDEL NGAN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 1:30 PM PT \u2013 Saturday, October 16, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>Despite the debt limit being extended, Democrats are looking to hold a potential vote to prevent a long term debt limit threat.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said the House has been considering removing the debt limit threat as early as this month. He stressed Republicans were effective in coming together to squash Democrats\u2019 attempts to extend the ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe House will explore options to remove the threat that the debt limit poses over the long term now that Republicans have demonstrated a willingness to weaponize it for partisan purposes,\u201d Hoyer wrote. \u201cThe House may consider legislation as early as this month to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I urged my colleagues to vote as Americans, not as Republicans or Democrats, but as a responsible human being sent here by your neighbors &amp; friends to do the right thing &amp; address the debt limit to prevent a default that would harm our economic recovery. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/hF7lFZiwdF\">https:\/\/t.co\/hF7lFZiwdF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steny Hoyer (@LeaderHoyer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeaderHoyer\/status\/1448081720524292098?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some Democrats have suggested the authority to raise the debt limit should be transferred to the treasury secretary instead of Congress.
