Notably, states farther north were found at the other end of the spectrum, including Colorado, where the rate rose 32%, Vermont, 27%, Michigan, 26%, and Minnesota, 22%.<\/p>\n<p>On October 1, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/local\/2021\/10\/01\/covid-19-cases-decline-in-florida-for-5th-straight-week\/\">Click Orlando<\/a> noted, \u201cAs the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to drop in Florida, the state on Friday reported an average of 5,396 new cases per day over the last week. This is the fifth straight week the number of weekly COVID-19 cases has declined.<\/p>\n<p>The same day, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/health\/2021\/10\/01\/us-covid-cases-falling-but-hospitals-brace-for-winter-wave\/\">Associated Press<\/a> noted in a piece titled, \u201cU.S. COVID cases falling, but hospitals brace for winter wave\u201d: \u201cHealth experts fear the next wave in Northern states as cold weather approaches. \u2026 many Northern states are still struggling with rising cases, and what\u2019s ahead for winter is far less clear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In July, Florida GOP governor Ron DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/440830-gov-desantis-touts-florida-vaccinations-while-down-playing-new-cases\/\">pointed out<\/a>, \u201cWhat we said \u2014 I made this comment at the beginning of May \u2014 look, this is a seasonal pattern. We knew it was going to be low in May, and it was. And we knew that at the end of June and July it would go up. Because that\u2019s what happened last year. And that\u2019s not just unique to Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Jacksonville, Florida, in August, DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/447214-ron-desantis-predicts-fall-and-winter-covid-19-wave-for-northern-u-s\/\">added,<\/a> \u201cWhat we\u2019re going to see is that \u2014 you\u2019re already starting to see \u2014 but because you don\u2019t have the herd immunity through the vaccinations, you\u2019re going to start to see winter and fall waves in the Northern states.
