During a press briefing Tuesday, Department of Defense spokesperson John Kirby affirmed America\u2019s relationship with the autonomous island nation is \u201crock solid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two weeks, the Biden administration\u2019s commitment to Taiwan has been tested as China launched a barrage of incursions into Taiwanese airspace. Kirby stressed, America and Taiwan are continuing their diplomatic and military exchanges, but failed to comment on whether he recognizes Taiwan as a sovereign state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe act in accordance with the One-China policy and we\u2019ve long abided by that policy, and it\u2019s distinct from Beijing\u2019s One-China principle under which the Chinese Communist Party asserts sovereignty over Taiwan,\u201d explained the DOD representative. \u201cWe take no position over the sovereignty of Taiwan, on sovereignty over Taiwan.
