Tom Suozzi of New York, 108 Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/suozzi.house.gov\/sites\/suozzi.house.gov\/files\/10.12.21_Letter%20to%20Speaker%20Pelosi_final.pdf\">asked<\/a> Pelosi to include a $4,500 tax credit for union-built electric vehicles in addition to other credits in the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/21\/ways-and-means-committee-kevin-brady-joe-biden-democrats-taxes-budget-reconciliation-legislation\/\">sweeping budget bill<\/a>. The legislation already includes a $7,500 consumer tax credit for all electric vehicle purchases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder the Ways and Means Committee\u2019s legislation, all vehicles \u2013 including imports \u2013 would be eligible for a $7,500 consumer tax credit through 2026,\u201d the members of Congress wrote. \u201cWe strongly support leveling the playing field between non-union and unionized workforces by including the added $4,500 incentive to support union-made EVs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerica has the opportunity to take the lead on this transformation by adopting policies that make EVs more affordable and accessible to consumers,\u201d they continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/06\/write-this-downspending-orgy-reconciliation-bill-sen-john-kennedy-wont-give-chuck-schumer-blank-check-raise-debt-ceiling\/\">(RELATED: \u2018Spending Orgy Reconciliation Bill\u2019: Sen. (Nicholas Kamm\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Consumers purchasing <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/30\/biden-greenhouse-gas-emissions-cars-electric-vehicles\/\">electric vehicles<\/a> not made by unionized workers wouldn\u2019t be eligible for the additional credit supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/15\/democrats-republicans-tax-increases-budget-reconciliation-inflation-unemployment-rate-economy\/\">Democrats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The United Auto Workers (UAW) union, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), which is comprised of 57 unions and 12.5 million total members, all endorsed the additional tax credit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking people will not stand for decades-old policies that drag down labor standards in the auto sector. It\u2019s long past time for public policy measures that favor good union jobs,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/08\/richard-trumka-afl-cio-joe-biden-executive-orders-union-jobs\/\">AFL-CIO<\/a> President Liz Shuler said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/suozzi.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/suozzi-leads-effort-keep-tax-credit-union-built-evs-build-back-better-act\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThis legislation is designed to create good union jobs in the U.S. and to ensure that taxpayers are not subsidizing the offshoring of jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UAW President Ray Curry added the proposal would \u201censure that our investment through tax credits in electric vehicles lead to good paying union jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. carmakers General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler \u2014 which are all union shops \u2014 also endorsed the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
