Ron Johnson of Wisconsin laid out a framework for conservatives seeking to escape alleged censorship by major tech companies on Tuesday, urging them to migrate to alternative social media platforms while recommending legal challenges to Big Tech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see a legislative solution occurring on this. It\u2019s going to be the private sector,\u201d said Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin during a discussion Tuesday on issues surrounding social media censorship hosted by the Media Research Center (MRC), a conservative media watchdog. \u201cWe as conservatives need to stop patronizing these liberal, leftist social media sites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two videos from Johnson\u2019s YouTube channel were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/28\/wisconsin-senator-ron-johnson-youtube-videos-removed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">removed<\/a> in January for containing \u201cinappropriate content.\u201d One of the videos featured testimony from Dr. Pierre Kory, a professor of medicine at St. Luke\u2019s Aurora Medical Center in Milwaukee, that touted Ivermectin as a \u201cwonder drug.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/07\/jim-jordan-antitrust-section-230-big-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Jim Jordan Announces Plans To Make It Easier To Break Up Big Tech)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Johnson\u2019s YouTube channel was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/politics-news\/youtube-suspends-gop-sen-ron-johnson-s-account-says-he-n1270569\">suspended<\/a>&nbsp;for seven days in June over a video of Johnson\u2019s remarks involved claims that violated \u201cCOVID-19 medical misinformation policies, which don\u2019t allow content that encourages people to use Hydroxychloroquine or Ivermectin to treat or prevent the virus,\u201d a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement. The Wisconsin senator said that a comprehensive course of action, including reforming Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, strengthening antitrust enforcement and state-level legislation targeting Big Tech is necessary in order to best address the problem of online censorship.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7300402\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"41\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7300402\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep. Greg Steube of Florida, who also participated in the discussion, echoed Johnson\u2019s thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are we staying on Facebook and Twitter when they\u2019re censoring us?\u201d Steube said. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/17\/arizona-blake-masters-big-tech-google-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Arizona Senate Candidate Blake Masters Plans To Tackle Big Tech\u2019s \u2018Predatory\u2019 Business Practices)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Steube <a href=\"https:\/\/steube.house.gov\/media\/in-the-news\/greg-steube-files-bill-curb-social-media-censorship-conservatives\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;a bill earlier this year designed to curb censorship of conservatives by social media platforms, reforming Section 230 to remove liability protections from the largest social media platforms unless they adhered to \u201cFirst Amendment standards\u201d of content moderation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we did away with Section 230 completely, then these smaller companies couldn\u2019t take advantage of that protection,\u201d Steube said. \u201cWe put in a market dominance test that would only apply to these bigger actors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both lawmakers cited a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/alec-schemmel\/2021\/10\/12\/study-big-tech-censors-gop-congressmen-54-1-more\">study<\/a>&nbsp;published Tuesday by the MRC which found that social media companies \u201ccensored Republican members of Congress by a rate of 54-t0-1 compared to congressional Democrats.\u201d In explaining its conclusions, the study mentioned such cases as YouTube\u2019s suspension of the account of Republican Sen.
