County Sheriff\u2019s Department officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/ufc-legend-chuck-liddell-arrested-for-domestic-violence-in-hidden-hills\">told<\/a> Fox 11 that police officers were dispatched to Liddell\u2019s home after receiving a family disturbance call around midnight Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArriving deputies said they determined Liddell and his wife had been involved in a physical altercation. According to authorities, his wife did not require medical treatment,\u201d Fox 11 reported. \u201cLiddell was arrested for domestic battery and his bail was set at $20,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But in a statement Liddell released on Instagram, the UFC legend said that <em>he<\/em> was the victim in the disturbance, and that more \u201cwill be revealed in due course.\u201d Liddell\u2019s entire statement reads:<\/p>\n<p><em>Last night the Los Angeles Sheriff\u2019s Department deputies who responded were professional.&nbsp; While the information about this case will be revealed in due course, I believe it is important to convey and clarify a few facts about the situation.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I was the victim of the incident last night at our family home, as details of the case will reveal. The deputies informed me that my wife would be arrested, as I did not respond to her assault while I sustained bruising and lacerations. I volunteered to go in her place.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This was one of the many times I have tried to shield a family mental health issue from the public purview. It has become painfully apparent that this cannot continue, as our private life has now reached a public breaking point.&nbsp; Please respect our privacy as I help to navigate our family through this difficult time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the media and governments focus almost exclusively on women as victims of domestic violence, men can and have been victims as well \u2013 at alarming rates. Still, the focus \u2013 and the government funds \u2013 has always gone to women.<\/p>\n<p>Liddell is not the first male celebrity to claim to be the victim. The most famous recent example involves Johnny Depp, who was accused by ex-wife Amber Heard of domestic violence. Depp, in turn, sued Heard and British Tabloid The Sun for calling him a \u201cwife beater\u201d and portraying him as an abuser.<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire previously&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/johnny-depp-loses-libel-case-against-ex-wife-and-british-tabloid-judge-accepts-description-that-hes-a-wife-beater\">reported<\/a>, Depp faced an uphill battle, since he had to prove he&nbsp;<em>didn\u2019t<\/em>&nbsp;hit Heard. Proving a negative is nearly impossible, and Depp was only able to prove he didn\u2019t attack Heard in two of the situations she claimed, but that apparently wasn\u2019t enough to cast doubt on the rest of her claims.<\/p>\n<p>During the trial, evidence surfaced showing proof that Heard abused Depp. Depp\u2019s attorneys presented&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/listen-actress-amber-heard-admits-to-hitting-johnny-depp-in-shocking-audio\">audio<\/a>&nbsp;of Heard admitting to hitting the \u201cPirates of Caribbean\u201d actor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry that I didn\u2019t, uh, uh, hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you. Babe, you\u2019re not punched,\u201d Heard tells Depp in the recording. \u201cI don\u2019t know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you\u2019re fine. I did not hurt you. I did not punch you. I was hitting you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorneys also provided evidence that Heard would stage alleged attacks, randomly yelling \u201cStop hitting me, Johnny\u201d when witnesses saw no such abuse. A concierge at the couple\u2019s penthouse also testified that surveillance footage showed Heard\u2019s sister pretending to punch her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the testimonies comes from Trinity Esparza, who was the concierge at the penthouse where Heard claims Depp hit her in the face. Esparza now questions how Heard received the mark on her face she claimed was from Depp, after reviewing surveillance footage from three days later, when Heard\u2019s sister Whitney pretended to punch her in the face, according to court documents,\u201d The Daily Wire previously&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/listen-actress-amber-heard-admits-to-hitting-johnny-depp-in-shocking-audio\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Further, evidence suggested Heard attacked Depp while the actor was in bed and staged the attacks she claimed he committed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnaware that members of Mr. Depp\u2019s security team (including an 18-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department) were mere feet away, Ms. Heard falsely began yelling, \u2018Stop hitting me, Johnny,\u2019\u201d Depp alleged in court documents. \u201cThe interaction culminated with Ms. Heard making false allegations that Mr. Depp struck her with a cell phone, hit her and destroyed the penthouse.
