The new law also directs the board to identify and make available, where feasible, funding for commercial rebates to go toward the purchase of electric equipment.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-10-09\/california-moves-toward-ban-on-gas-lawnmowers-and-leaf-blowers\"><span class=\"s1\"><span>Los Angeles Times<\/span><\/span><\/a>, the legislation \u201crequires all newly sold small-motor equipment primarily used for landscaping to be zero-emission \u2013 essentially to be battery-operated or plug-in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cNew portable gas-powered generators also must be zero-emission by 2028, which also could be delayed at the discretion of the state agency,\u201d the Times continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe new law applies to any engine that produces less than 25 gross horsepower, including lawn mowers, weed trimmers, chain saws, golf carts, specialty vehicles, generators and pumps. It does not apply to on-road motor vehicles, off-road motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, boats, snowmobiles or model airplanes, cars or boats,\u201d the outlet added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Those who are against the measure have said it will create more difficulty for people who work in the landscaping and gardening businesses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">State Senator Brian Dahle, a Republican from Bieber, spoke out against it, pointing to the power blackouts that have negatively impacted California.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dahle said, \u201cThis Legislature hates fuel, which is very sustainable. It\u2019s easy to access. And when the power is off, you can still use it. You can still run a generator to keep your freezer going, to keep your medical devices going. But when your battery\u2019s dead and there\u2019s no power on, you have nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how people react when they learn how much this equipment pollutes, and how much smog-forming and climate-changing emissions that small off-road engine equipment creates,\u201d said Democratic Assemblyman Marc Berman, who authored the bill. \u201cThis is a pretty modest approach to trying to limit the massive amounts of pollution that this equipment emits, not to mention the health impact on the workers who are using it constantly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Machines that run on gasoline bought before the cutoff dates will still be permitted to be used, Berman reportedly said.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Andrew Bray, vice president of government relations for the National Assn. of Landscape Professionals, reportedly said there are downsides to the new measure. Specifically, certain equipment that is zero-emission is much more expensive than gas-powered pieces of machinery. Bray also pointed out that people will need to transport an abundance of batteries during a day of work\u2014 with a crew of three people needing to bring 30 to 40 fully charged batteries with them.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThese companies are going to have to completely retrofit their entire workshops to be able to handle this massive change in voltage so they\u2019re going to be charged every day,\u201d Bray said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last year, Newsom signed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2020\/09\/23\/governor-newsom-announces-california-will-phase-out-gasoline-powered-cars-drastically-reduce-demand-for-fossil-fuel-in-californias-fight-against-climate-change\/\">executive order<\/a> that directs the state to require \u201call new cars and passenger trucks sold in California be zero-emission vehicles\u201d by 2035.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">California has increasingly become a difficult state for businesses to thrive resulting in several companies relocating to other states.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently announced he is moving his corporate headquarters out of California to Texas.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-says-tesla-moving-headquarters-from-california-to-texas\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> by The Daily Wire, \u201cThe Tesla CEO made the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/10\/07\/elon-musk-announces-tesla-to-move-headquarters-to-austin\/\"><span class=\"s1\">announcement<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;at the company\u2019s annual stockholder meeting, which took place in Austin, Texas, at Tesla\u2019s vehicle assembly plant, which is currently under construction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cEven though the company\u2019s headquarters is moving from Palo Alto, California, to Austin, Musk clarified that production will still be ramping up at Tesla\u2019s California plant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
