That spokesman also <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/british-airways-drops-ladies-and-gentlemen-in-announcements-in-favour-of-gender-neutral-terms-1241588\">told<\/a> I News that the airline was \u201ccommitted to&nbsp;using inclusive&nbsp;language that makes all our customers feel welcome \u201d and had been \u201cusing inclusive language at the airport for over a year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I News also reported that Air Canada was the first major airline to switch to gender neutral greetings, making the change in October 2019. That airline says \u201ceveryone\u201d instead of \u201cladies and gentlemen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Japan Airlines and Lufthansa made the change in July 2020. Those airlines say \u201cdear guests\u201d instead of \u201cladies and gentlemen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Air Malta and Australian airline Quantas have also removed \u201cladies and gentlemen\u201d from their greetings.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Martin Sorrell, founder of WPP, the world\u2019s largest advertising agency, told the Telegraph that passengers weren\u2019t really concerned with traditional greetings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether that\u2019s fortunate or unfortunate, it\u2019s a sign of the times,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cThe important thing is not the announcements, it\u2019s the food, the Wi-Fi, the service, the speed of getting on the plane and getting off the plane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To that end, the Daily Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10076705\/British-Airways-tells-pilots-cabin-crew-not-refer-passengers-ladies-gentlemen.html\">reported<\/a> that British Airways faced criticism several months ago after it ended its traditional beverage-cart service. Passengers were asked to pre-order drinks or use an app to order, like they would in certain bars. The airline reportedly said ending the service was meant to cut weight and food waste, but the Mail reported that critics said it removed the personal touch and was another example of the airline reducing its services.<\/p>\n<p>Airlines aren\u2019t the only ones dealing with complaints about \u201cinclusion.\u201d As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/train-company-apologizes-to-non-binary-passenger-for-saying-ladies-and-gentlemen-boys-and-girls\">reported<\/a> in May, a British train company apologized to a \u201cnon-binary\u201d passenger who claimed to be offended by the phrase. From The Daily Wire:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21.42015503876\">\n<p><em>The \u201cnon-binary\u201d passenger, who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9574901\/LNER-slammed-apologising-staff-said-good-afternoon-ladies-gentlemen-boys-girls.html\">reportedly serves<\/a>&nbsp;as the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union\u2019s LGBT rep, tweeted to the London North Eastern Railway (LNER), \u201c\u2018Good afternoon ladies and gentleman, boys and girls \u2026\u2019 so as a non binary person this announcement doesn\u2019t actually apply to me so I won\u2019t listen @LNER.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The train company replied, \u201cI\u2019m really sorry to see this, Laurence, our Train Managers should not be using language like this, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention.
