The California state legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1084\">suggests<\/a> that the law may keep consumers from \u201cincorrectly\u201d believing that a given toy may be \u201cinappropriate\u201d for one gender and not the other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of it is to make sure if you\u2019re a young girl that you can find a police car, fire truck, a periodic table or a dinosaur,\u201d said state Assemblyman Evan Low (D-CA), who introduced the legislation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-10-09\/california-will-require-large-retailers-to-provide-gender-neutral-toy-sections\">according<\/a> to The Los Angeles Times&nbsp; \u201cAnd then similarly, if you\u2019re a boy, if you\u2019re more artistic and want to play with glitter, why not? Why should you feel the stigma of saying, \u2018Oh, this should be shamed\u2019 and going to a different location?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom, who recently won his recall election, did not release a statement on the bill after signing it, aside from announcing that it and dozens of other bills had been signed.<\/p>\n<p>One notable law, <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1346\">AB 1346<\/a>, will ban retailers from selling gas-powered lawnmowers as early as 2024 \u2014 even though, according to Andrew Bray of the National Association of Landscaping Professionals, the zero-emissions versions currently cost more than twice as much as conventional gas versions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-10-09\/california-moves-toward-ban-on-gas-lawnmowers-and-leaf-blowers\">reports<\/a> The Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n<p>State Assemblyman Marc Berman (D-CA), who authored the legislation, has called the law \u201ca pretty modest approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how people react when they learn how much this equipment pollutes, and how much smog forming and climate changing emissions that small off-road engine equipment creates,\u201d said Berman, reports the L.A.
