The committee <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/select-committee-subpoenas-individuals-tied-former-president-days-surrounding\">announced<\/a> on Sept. 23 that it issued subpoenas to four senior aides to former President Donald Trump: former chief strategist Steve Bannon, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former Defense Department Chief of Staff Kash Patel and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"8.3577712609971\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NEW: \u2066<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/January6thCmte?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@January6thCmte<\/a>\u2069 confirms our reporting that Steve Bannon has informed him of his plans to fight subpoena.<br \/>However committee says Mark Meadows and Kash Patel are \u201cengaging\u201d with the group.<br \/>We also reported Meadows had responded.<br \/>No mention of Dan Scavino. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x43RvsrPvv\">pic.twitter.com\/x43RvsrPvv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Nobles (@ryanobles) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ryanobles\/status\/1446532757488799747?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/10\/07\/trump-jan-6-committees-subpoena-515593\">argued<\/a> that executive privilege protects his top advisors from testifying in front of the committee, and a lawyer for Bannon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/10\/08\/bannon-jan-6-subpoena-515681\">said<\/a> Thursday that Bannon would wait for federal courts to decide whether or not he is required to testify. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/trump-january-6-riot-meadows-bannon\/\">(RELATED: Jan. 6 Committee Issues First Subpoenas To Four Trump Aides, Allies)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bannon did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration will not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/white-house\/biden-declines-trump-request-withhold-white-house-records-jan-6-n1281120\">attempt<\/a> to assert executive privilege against the subpoenas due to the \u201cunique and extraordinary circumstances\u201d of the committee\u2019s work, White House Counsel Dana Remus wrote in a letter to the National Archives.<\/p>\n<p>Meadows and Patel are \u201cengaging\u201d with the committee, Thompson and Cheney said in their statement, while calling Bannon\u2019s assertion of executive privilege \u201cvague.\u201d They did not mention Scavino, who has not yet been physically served with his subpoena, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/10\/05\/politics\/house-committee-january-6-subpoena-serve-dan-scavino\/index.html\">according<\/a> to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can confirm that I have responded to the subpoena in a timely manner. Beyond that, I will not comment on my confidential dealings with the Committee. But I can assure you that I will continue to tell the truth and remain focused on Fight With Kash to help any American who has been censored and misrepresented online,\u201d Patel told the Daily Caller in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Meadows did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Patel and Bannon are expected to testify at depositions on Oct. 14, and Meadows and Scavino are expected to testify on Oct. 15.<\/p>\n<p>Congress has three ways of enforcing subpoenas and holding individuals in contempt for violating them, <a href=\"https:\/\/crsreports.congress.gov\/product\/pdf\/R\/R45653\">according<\/a> to the Congressional Research Service. Following a full chamber vote, the House or Senate Sergeant-at-Arms can detain a subpoenaed witness until he or she testifies. The Department of Justice may also enforce criminal contempt of Congress charges against individuals, and Congress can independently ask a federal court to enforce the subpoena.<\/p>\n<p>The select committee has also issued <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/29\/jan-6-committee-subpoena-trump-rally-capitol\/\">subpoenas<\/a> to 11 individuals who helped organize the \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally that immediately preceded the riot, as well as document <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/27\/jan-6-committee-capitol-riot-facebook-twitter\/\">requests<\/a> to social media companies such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Parler.
