In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?515190-1\/afghanistan-inspector-general-testifies-misuse-assistance-funds\">House hearing<\/a>, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan, John Sopko said he is \u201clooking into\u201d the claims that Ghani stole $169 million of U.S. taxpayer money.<\/p>\n<p>That money was given to Ghani\u2019s former government as U.S. aid, but he allegedly took it when he left the country. Inspector General Sopko added, these allegations have yet to be proven.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are allegations, but not only with President Ghani,\u201d Sopko expalined. \u201cThere are allegations with senior officials in their finance ministry, their central bank and a number of other ministries walking off with millions of dollars. But again, those are just allegations.
