I just want a definition from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A panicking McAuliffe then doubled down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not taught here in Virginia,\u201d he responded. \u201cHere\u2019s what I\u2019ve said all along \u2014 and it really bothers me. This whole idea of stirring parents up to create divisions. Our children are going through such challenges today because of COVID, and we\u2019re talking about something here today, wasting precious viewers\u2019 time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.9601990049751\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Virginia Democrat Terry McAuliffe suggests parents concerned about Critical Race Theory are racist, then refuses to define CRT. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MKnnb5BC4S\">pic.twitter.com\/MKnnb5BC4S<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1446277790303768576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 8, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>McAuliffe\u2019s Republican challenger, Glenn Youngkin, pointed out on Twitter that McAuliffe may be technically correct in that Critical Race Theory itself is not taught in K-12 public schools, but Virginia teachers have, at least, been encouraged to teach some subjects through a \u201cCritical Race Theory lens,\u201d bringing aspects of the more complex CRT into use in classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin claims that, during his last term as governor, McAuliffe\u2019s department of education pushed for teachers to use CRT.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.5810397553517\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As governor, Terry McAuliffe pushed the divisive political agenda of critical race theory into our schools.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a 2015 training for teachers the Virginia Department of Education held under McAuliffe. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lVd7FkYo4u\">https:\/\/t.co\/lVd7FkYo4u<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/VAgov?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#VAgov<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/VAGovRoundtable?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#VAGovRoundtable<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PRJys43LMT\">pic.twitter.com\/PRJys43LMT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Glenn Youngkin (@GlennYoungkin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GlennYoungkin\/status\/1446251148927803392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 7, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Critics of teaching Critical Race Theory have also p<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairfaxtimes.com\/articles\/yes-virginia-there-is-critical-race-theory-in-our-schools\/article_ba449c18-cf99-11eb-a719-4bfc9103236c.html\">ointed out that elements of Critical Race Theory<\/a> appear in some Virginia curriculum models, and that models created by individuals familiar with CRT encourage \u201ceducators to commit to making schools\u2014at all levels\u2014critical active conscience spaces that center people long denied space, voice and freedom,\u201d in line with the theory itself.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most notable confrontations between educators and parents concerned about CRT have happened in Loudon and Fairfax counties in Virginia, and the Loudon confrontation, at least, is among those mentioned by the National School Board Association in its letter to the Department of Justice, requesting federal law enforcement resources be dedicated to investigating potential threats to administrators and faculty, likening the incidents to \u201cdomestic terrorism\u201d and \u201chate crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice responded to that letter earlier this week, pledging to dedicate federal resources to investigating reports of harassment and violence directed at school administrators.
