If you go to our Fremont factory it\u2019s jammed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough for people to afford houses, and people have to come in from far away,\u201d Musk said. \u201cThere\u2019s a limit to how big you can scale in the Bay Area. In Austin our factory is like five minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from Downtown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk previously threatened to move Tesla\u2019s headquarters last year when COVID lockdowns shuttered the company\u2019s manufacturing facility in Fremont, California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas\/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen [sic] on how Tesla is treated in the future,\u201d Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1259162367285317633\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTesla is the last carmaker left in CA,\u201d Musk added.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla filed a lawsuit in May 2020 against Alameda County, where Fremont is located, but later dropped the suit the same month. Meanwhile, the Fremont plant resumed operations in violation of public health orders.<\/p>\n<p>While the kerfuffle with Alameda County was going on, Musk was venting elsewhere about California\u2019s pandemic restrictions as well. In April last year, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/29\/elon-musk-slams-coronavirus-shelter-in-place-orders-as-fascist.html\">ranted<\/a> against California officials, calling their stay-at-home orders \u201cfascist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo say that they cannot leave their house, and they will be arrested if they do, this is fascist. This is not democratic. This is not freedom. Give people back their godd*** freedom,\u201d Musk said on the call.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the call, he condemned California for \u201cforcibly imprisoning people in their homes, against all their constitutional rights, but that\u2019s my opinion, and breaking people\u2019s freedoms in ways that are horrible and wrong, and not why people came to America or built this country. What the f***. Excuse me. It\u2019s outrage, it\u2019s an outrage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will cause great harm not just to Tesla, but to many companies,\u201d Musk noted, adding that \u201cwhile Tesla will weather the storm there are many small companies that will not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Texas has seen a rise in businesses fleeing high taxes, expensive real estate, and government regulation in places like Silicon Valley to set up shop in the Lone Star State.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Tesla, other tech giants like Oracle and Hewlett Packard have said they are ditching the West Coast and moving their headquarters to Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Several CEOs have moved their residences to Austin as well, including Musk himself, Splunk CEO Douglass Merritt, and Dropbox CEO Drew Houston.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
