Dan Bishop wrote Attorney General Merrick Garland Thursday demanding an explanation for the Department of Justice\u2019s (DOJ) targeting of American parents protesting against local school officials.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/merrick-garland-directs-fbi-to-target-parents-responsible-for-disturbing-spike-in-harassment-intimidation-against-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Garland announced Monday<\/a> he was directing the FBI to \u201cuse its authority\u201d against parents who threaten or harass public school officials. In the letter, first obtained by the Daily Caller, Bishop and his colleagues say they are \u201cnot aware\u201d of any widespread violence or threats toward education officials and accuse the DOJ of targeting political opponents who are expressing dissent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purported factual predicate for this order was \u2018a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence\u2019 directed against such persons \u2018[i]n recent months,&#8217;\u201d the letter reads. \u201cAlthough we have observed throughout this year a growing movement of parents speaking and protesting in local school board meetings against racist Critical Race Theory-based (CRT) indoctrination and specious mask mandates for students, we are not aware of any significant or widespread acts or threats of violence or property damage associated with this First Amendment-protected activity, and certainly no apparent federal crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour memorandum furnishes no detail of any occurrences that justify directing federal law enforcement to coordinate nationwide opposition to this political movement,\u201d the letter continues. \u201cNor can such support be found in the National School Boards Association\u2019s September 29 letter to President Biden demanding a federal law enforcement response, which you dutifully provided in three business days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/06\/republican-ags-join-forces-to-warn-garland-against-weaponizing-fbi-to-target-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quick to push back<\/a> on Garland\u2019s directive, with many accusing the Biden DOJ of attempting to silence political dissent. Widespread protests and other forms of pushback have taken place in recent months across the country, as some parents have grown frustrated with the prevalence of CRT in school curricula and COVID-19 restrictions in the classroom. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/05\/tom-cotton-josh-hawley-lisa-monaco-memorandum-fbi-local-law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Republicans Pepper Deputy AG With Questions About Treating American Parents As Domestic Terrorists)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttorney General Garland is trying to brand American parents speaking up against Critical Race Theory as \u2018domestic terrorists.\u2019 Yet nothing in his memorandum even remotely justifies targeting American parents for opposing CRT and mask mandates in schools,\u201d Bishop told the Daily Caller. \u201cGarland has a lot to answer for here, as he failed to show any evidence that there\u2019s widespread violent threats against school board members or employees by these moms and dads just looking to protect their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration is simply using the FBI to silence its political opponents. It\u2019s a disgraceful abuse of government power. (Screenshot\/Daily Caller)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The letter demands answers to multiple questions from Garland, including whether or not the attorney general spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/06\/doocy-psaki-biden-school-board-protesters-domestic-terrorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">President Joe Biden<\/a> about the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/07\/jim-banks-national-school-boards-association-letter-patriot-act-department-of-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NSBA letter<\/a> or his ensuing directive. The lawmakers also ask for any correspondence with the White House about Garland\u2019s memo and documentation of the alleged occurrences of threats and violence against education officials.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Bishop, the letter is signed by North Carolina Reps. Richard Hudson, Ted Budd and Greg Murphy, Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, Texas Reps. Chip Roy, Michael Cloud, Randy Weber and Brian Babin, Georgia Reps. Jody Hice, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Andrew Clyde, South Carolina Reps. Ralph Norman and Jeff Duncan, Colorado Reps. Lauren Boebert and Doug Lamborn, Alabama Rep. Barry Moore, New Mexico Rep. Yvette Herrell, Montana Rep. Matthew Rosendale, Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry and Ohio Rep.
