Richard Blumenthal (R-Conn.) doubled down on his calls for Facebook\u2019s CEO to testify before the Senate following a whistleblower\u2019s claims. In an interview Wednesday, the Republican lawmaker said Mark Zuckerberg has an obligation to tell the public about how his company is weaponizing hate speech and endangering children.<\/p>\n<p>His remarks came after whistleblower Frances Haugen testified before the Senate Commerce Subcommittee Tuesday. She claimed Facebook\u2019s executives refuse to make any changes because they choose profits over people. Blumenthal, who chairs the committee, pointed out that our children are the ones who are the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeens today looking at themselves in the mirror feel doubt and insecurity,\u201d stated the senator. \u201cMark Zuckerberg ought to be looking at himself in the mirror today. And yet, rather than taking responsibility and showing leadership, Mr. Zuckerberg is going sailing.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Yesterday\u2019s testimony by Frances Haugen made clear that the damage to self-esteem &amp; self-worth inflected by Facebook today will haunt our children\u2014fueling doubts &amp; insecurities.
