Bernie Sanders of Vermont opted not to support a joint statement condemning protesters who followed Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona into a bathroom because the condemnation did not rebuke Sinema\u2019s moderate political views.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was revealed in an email chain first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/sanders-sinema-spat-harrassment-a8c9f7a2-6579-4800-aa28-43a71fe2639b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;by Axios. The leaked emails emphasize&nbsp;the division between Democrats\u2019 moderate and left wings as they search for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/30\/infrastructure-vote-delayed-talks-stall-left-wing-vow-sink-it\/?utm_source=piano&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=2360&amp;tpcc%3D=newsletter&amp;pnespid=qON1V3xca6MFhvSRtzjtDZjd5RiyU4MsMuLiwLNn9A9mexRY0d_eOFK6ZMMPvYUvza9AhVAz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">compromise<\/a> on the bipartisan infrastructure bill and their $3.5 trillion spending package. The emails show that Sanders wanted the statement to urge Sinema to back Democrats\u2019 desired drug pricing reforms and endorse the package, which she has refused to do.<\/p>\n<p>In one email, Sanders Communications Director Mike Casca asked that the statement be prefaced, \u201cWhile we hope Senator Sinema will change her position on prescription drug reform and support a major reconciliation bill.\u201d After an aide to Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey said the edit would not be made, Casca replied that Sanders would not be signing the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSanders will not be signing, so please cut \u2018Senate Democratic Leadership Team\u2019 from headline,\u201d Casca wrote. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/05\/kyrsten-sinema-reconciliation-daca-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Activists Corner Sinema In Airport Over Biden Agenda)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7297215\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"32\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7297215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Mark Warner of Virginia, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Catherine Cortez-Masto of Nevada all added their names, Axios reported. The statement, however, has yet to be published.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/03\/university-of-arizona-kyrsten-sinema-build-back-better-plan-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">followed Sinema into a bathroom<\/a> at Arizona State University on Sunday, and they were widely condemned after imagery emerged of them pressing the senator to back immigration reform in her party\u2019s budget while she used the bathroom.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema said that the confrontation was \u201cnot legitimate protest\u201d in a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/not-legitimate-protest-sinema-responds-to-left-wing-bathroom-harassers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> Monday, calling their actions \u201cwholly inappropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden also said he thought the protesters\u2019 actions were uncalled for, but added that \u201cthis happens to everybody\u201d and that \u201cit\u2019s part of the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
