(Photo by Chris McGrath\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur fundamental cohesive values are loyalty, faith and love,\u201d Novak said, adding that the country\u2019s pro-family principles are \u201cclearly\u201d articulated in its constitution and that lawmakers regularly introduce budget measures in support of pro-family support schemes like free child care and summer camps and tax cuts for bigger families. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/05\/hungary-viktor-orban-tucker-carlson-interview\/\">(RELATED: Hungarian PM Defends \u2018Traditional Values\u2019 And \u2018National Identity\u2019 In Tucker Carlson Interview)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These measures are in part intended to address declining fertility and birth rates: demographers <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/24\/italy-new-york-times-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention\/\">warned The New York Times in May<\/a> that an \u201cavalanche\u201d of \u201cexpanding and accelerating\u201d demographic forces is driving global birth rates down at alarming rates, warning that by the second half of the century \u2014 or earlier \u2014&nbsp;the global population will enter a sustained decline.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than turn to immigration as a solution to depopulation as many other countries are doing, Novak said, Hungary instead is looking inward and incentivizing larger families, children, and marriage. Most Hungarian young people envision getting married and having children, she continued \u2014 whether or not that is actually what happens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to choose the same path as many Northern European countries states to support immigration in order to replace lacking children, because that is what\u2019s happening all around,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd we said no, we don\u2019t choose this way. We will support responsible childbearing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For example, the Hungarian minister of family affairs said, Hungary has a tax system that favors child bearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that means that the more children you have, the less personal income tax you pay, it\u2019s as simple as that. These conditions may be social factors.<\/p>\n<p>The Hungarian minister for families called abortion a \u201cvery delicate issue\u201d in Hungary since during the communist regime abortion was \u201cvery common\u201d and there were years in Hungary when the number of abortions was \u201cmuch higher than the number of births.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/26\/josh-hawley-missouri-united-states-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Hawley Plan Gives \u2018Marriage Bonus\u2019 To Married Parents With Young Children)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we had been able to save these children, we could have saved 6 million lives in Hungary,\u201d she said, noting that the number of abortions in Hungary dropped by 41% due to these abortion restrictions. It is not immediately clear what time period she was referring to in which Hungarian abortions dropped 41%.<\/p>\n<p>Novak told the Daily Caller\u2019s Henry Rodgers that Hungary has introduced pro-family concepts into the national curriculum in schools. This includes family life, ethics and church education, and even biology and math, she said, noting that the wording of a math problem may encourage children to think about \u201cpro-family attitudes or mindsets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The country also focuses efforts on training teachers because \u201cno matter what you put in the textbooks, if the teachers do not share the same mindset\u201d these efforts to instill pro-family attitudes will not succeed, according to Novak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can also teach mathematics by pointing out family values or by discrediting families,\u201d she said. \u201cYou want to teach the kids how to count, and you say, for example, \u2018You are the only child in the family and your parents get divorced and they have this amount of money, how do you share it between the three of you or between the two of them?\u2019 That\u2019s mathematics. Or you say that you are in a family with five children, you have a birthday cake, and you have to share it among the seven. And how would you share it? It\u2019s also mathematics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I think the importance is that you have this pro-family attitudes or mindset be reflective in each and every field of our lives and not just the traditional ones,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. fertility rates&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/05\/fertility-rates-drop-millenials-marriage-women\/\">are at their lowest<\/a>&nbsp;since the government began tracking such data in the 1930s, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s National Center for Health Statistics released in early May.
