National security adviser Jake Sullivan is scheduled to meet with top Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi this week, however. It will be the second in-person meeting between senior Biden administration officials and their Chinese counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese military deployed 52 warplanes into Taiwan\u2019s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) Monday, an unprecedented number since Taiwan began reporting such information in 2020. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/05\/taiwan-alert-record-chinese-planes-airspace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Taiwan \u2018On Alert\u2019 After Record Number Of Chinese Planes Enter Airspace, Warns Of \u2018Catastrophic\u2019 Consequences If It\u2019s Democracy Falls)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The aircraft included 34 J-16 fighter jets, two Su-30 fighter jets, 12 nuclear-capable H-6 bombers, two Y-8 anti-submarine warplanes and two KJ-500 airborne control planes belonging to China\u2019s People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnd.gov.tw\/Publish.aspx?p=79139&amp;title=%e5%9c%8b%e9%98%b2%e6%b6%88%e6%81%af&amp;SelectStyle=%e5%8d%b3%e6%99%82%e8%bb%8d%e4%ba%8b%e5%8b%95%e6%85%8b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to a statement from Taiwan\u2019s defense ministry.<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to a request to confirm Biden and Xi\u2019s agreement to hold the summit.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki reaffirmed U.S. support for Taiwan on Monday, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur commitment to Taiwan is rock solid and contributes to the maintenance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and within the region,\u201d she told reporters during Monday\u2019s press briefing. \u201cWe have been clear privately and publicly about our concern about [China\u2019s] pressure and coercion toward Taiwan, and we will continue to watch the situation very closely.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"ob-read-more-selector\" readability=\"13\">\n<p>\u201cWe urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure and coercion against Taiwan.&nbsp; And we have an abiding interest in peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
