Ron Johnson, the lawmakers wrote Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/04\/fauci-christmas-biden-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Fauci<\/a>, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Rochelle Walensky and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Acting Commissioner Janet Woodcock. The letter, first obtained by the Daily Caller, accuses the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/27\/medical-experts-joe-biden-vaccine-covid-19-goal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">administration<\/a> of ignoring potential early treatments for COVID-19 and participating \u201cin an aggressive campaign against the use of specific early treatment options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though a basic tenet of medicine is: early detection allows for early treatment which produces better results; your agencies have overtly discouraged the use of cheap and widely-available early treatments like ivermectin in favor of expensive new drugs like Remdesivir,\u201d the letter reads.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7296661\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"36\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7296661\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Letter from GOP lawmakers to Xavier Becerra, Anthony Fauci, Rochelle Walensky and Janet Woodcock, Page 1. (Screenshot\/Daily Caller)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The lawmakers ask the officials to explain why they believe Ivermectin poses a health risk as opposed to being a safe, effective treatment for COVID-19, to list all early <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/24\/cdc-director-rochelle-walensky-overrules-panel-booster-shots-coronavirus-frontline-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19<\/a> treatments the federal government has examined and the funding invested to study each and why the inhaled steroid budesonide has not been approved to treat COVID-19 in the U.S. despite promising clinical results and regulatory approval in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been a strong advocate for early treatment since March, 2020. As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, I held two hearings on early treatment in November and December of 2020. Dr. Pierre Kory\u2019s powerful testimony on ivermectin was censored and removed from YouTube,\u201d Sen. Johnson told the Daily Caller. \u201cBig Tech could have played a helpful role facilitating a free exchange of medical information as doctors with the courage and compassion to treat Covid patients desperately sought it. Instead, they censored and suppressed information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur federal health agencies failed to robustly explore and research early treatment options and have not been transparent with the American people,\u201d Johnson continued. \u201cThis combination of censorship and dereliction in developing early treatment has tragically resulted in an untold number of lost lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Johnson and the House Freedom Caucus are joined in signing the letter by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Utah Sen. Mike Lee and Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/01\/merck-covid-19-coronavirus-pill-treatment-antiviral-approval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Merck Seeks Approval For Experimental COVID-19 Pill)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>House Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/30\/chip-roy-letter-republicans-fauci-suppressed-covid-19-treatments-hydroxychloroquine-ivermectin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previously wrote Dr. Fauci<\/a> in July demanding answers on his knowledge of Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine as potential early treatments of COVID-19. The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/22\/fda-authorize-booster-shots-covid-coronavirus-vaccine-pfizer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FDA<\/a> granted emergency approval to Hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 treatment in March 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/06\/15\/fda-withdraws-emergency-use-authorization-hydroxychloroquine-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">before withdrawing approval<\/a> in June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Ivermectin has been the subject of controversy for several months after some cases of Americans taking the veterinary version of the drug and experiencing serious side effects <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/07\/joe-rogan-cnn-jim-acosta-ivermectin-horse-dewormer-podcast-coronavirus-monocolonal-antibodie-suing-outlet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">received widespread media attention<\/a>.
