An Oct. 1 video on Instagram shows a child looking faint and falling into someone\u2019s arms. \u201cReports coming out of S.E.A. (Malaysia) that this 12 year old was having an adverse reaction to the \u2018vaccine,&#8217;\u201d text in the video reads.<\/p>\n<p>While the child in the video had just been vaccinated against COVID-19, his fainting was unrelated to side effects from the vaccine. Check Your Fact found footage of the same video shared by Malaysian news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kinitv.com\/bm\/berita\/109705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KiniTV<\/a>, in an article bearing the headline: \u201cTwo teenagers fainted after the vaccine due to nervousness, not enough sleep.\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/09\/24\/fact-check-member-fda-vaccine-advisory-panel-killing-people-saving-covid\/\">(RELATED: Did A Member Of The FDA Vaccine Advisory Panel Say, \u2018We Are Killing More People Than We Are Saving With The Shots\u2019?)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Datuk Rahmad Mariman, Melaka\u2019s State Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman, confirmed the child fainted outside a vaccination center due to nausea from not eating breakfast before he received the COVID-19 vaccine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/news\/nation\/2021\/09\/732463\/teen-viral-video-who-fainted-skipped-breakfast-vaccination\">New Straits Times<\/a> reported. The Malaysian Ministry of Health further confirmed the child\u2019s fainting was not a result of the vaccine in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=223914393103905&amp;set=pcb.223888973106447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kementeriankesihatanmalaysia\/posts\/224306919731319\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statements<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=224365306392147&amp;set=pcb.224365943058750\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted<\/a> on its verified Facebook page on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The child appeared healthy during the observation period, but then collapsed outside, according to a translation of the statements. He was then observed for 30 more minutes, where his vital signs remained stable and he was allowed to go home.<\/p>\n<p>As of Sept. 20, children as young as 12 have been able to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Malaysia, Malaysia Now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.malaysianow.com\/news\/2021\/09\/20\/new-immunisation-phase-to-prepare-teens-for-school-kicks-off\/\">reported<\/a>. The Malaysian government is aiming for 80 percent of children aged 12-17 to be fully vaccinated by the start of the 2022 school year, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaksincovid.gov.my\/en\/faq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Special Committee for Ensuring Access to COVID-19 Vaccine Supply<\/a>&nbsp;states the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine are typically mild and include, \u201cpain, swelling, redness on the injection site, feeling tired or lethargic, headaches, shivers, joint pains, fevers, nausea, feeling unwell, swelling of the lymph nodes, and other side effects that may be reported from time to time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccinesafety\/concerns\/fainting.html\">states on its website<\/a> that it has \u201creceived reports of people fainting after nearly all vaccines\u201d and that fainting is usually caused by pain or anxiety. People can experience anxiety during the vaccination process.
