Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the DOJ\u2019s new order in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-addresses-violent-threats-against-school-officials-and-teachers\">statement<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The agency cited an alleged increase in harassment, intimidation and threats of violence made against school board members and teachers by parents in public schools nationwide. This comes after the National School Boards Association claimed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nsba.org\/News\/2021\/federal-assistance-letter\">letter to the White House<\/a> public schools and their staff were in \u201cimmediate danger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreats against public servants are not only illegal, they run counter to our nation\u2019s core values,\u201d Garland expressed in the released statement. \u201cThose who dedicate their time and energy to ensuring that our children receive a proper education in a safe environment deserve to be able to do their work without fear for their safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Justice Department Addresses Violent Threats Against School Officials and Teachers<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/N9NAP8bGG3\">https:\/\/t.co\/N9NAP8bGG3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Justice Department (@TheJusticeDept) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheJusticeDept\/status\/1445149150090338304?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the statement, the agency said it would create a task force to address individual incidents and work to educate school staff on how to identify potential threats as well as gather evidence, which could complicate things for parents. Critics of the move argued this was a veiled attempt at silencing parents who have been speaking out against restrictive COVID-19 policies or the addition of critical race theory to school curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Gov.
