The DOJ\u2019s move came days after the National School Boards Association (NSBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsba.org\/News\/2021\/federal-assistance-letter\">pushed<\/a> the Biden to take action against the rise in \u201cmalice, violence, and threats,\u201d which the association said could constitute \u201ca form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents are speaking out against Critical Race Theory in schools. Now the Biden administration is cracking down on dissent,\u201d Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenTomCotton\/status\/1445203103280734209\">tweeted<\/a> in response to the DOJ announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt his confirmation hearing, Merrick Garland promised not to follow the Obama model of weaponizing DOJ to target &amp; persecute his political opponents,\u201d Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1445232410807910400\">said<\/a>. \u201cJust a few months in, he\u2019s already breaking that promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blake Masters, a Republican running for U.S. Senate in Arizona, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bgmasters\/status\/1445190699322802178\">stated<\/a>, \u201cIt can happen here. It\u2019s happening here. Your government is being weaponized against you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire\u2019s Andrew Klavan and Matt Walsh also blasted the DOJ announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInteresting that harassing a female Senator in a rest room is \u2018part of the process,\u2019 but mothers standing up for their children is criminal activity. Another snapshot of leftism,\u201d Klavan <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/andrewklavan\/status\/1445376484378566662\">said<\/a>, referencing Biden\u2019s reaction to Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) being followed into a bathroom by activists over her stance against the White House\u2019s $3.5 trillion \u201creconciliation\u201d package.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattWalshBlog\/status\/1445192650613735424\">said:<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cLeftist activists can come to your house with bullhorns. Film you in the bathroom. Loot your business. Burn police stations. The FBI does nothing. But if conservative parents raise their voices at a school board meeting, they\u2019re hunted down as terrorists. The law is dead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For its part, the NSBA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsba.org\/News\/2021\/justice-department-statement\">celebrated<\/a> the Justice Department\u2019s decision calling for a crackdown on people \u201cintent on causing chaos and disrupting\u201d school board meetings. The association pinned the disruptions on outsiders, not parents angry about school curriculum or mask mandates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe individuals who are intent on causing chaos and disrupting our schools \u2014 many of whom are not even connected to local schools \u2014 are drowning out the voices of parents who must be heard when it comes to decisions about their children\u2019s education, health, and safety,\u201d NSBA CEO Chip Slaven said in a statement. \u201cThese acts of intimidation are also affecting educational services and school board governance. Some have even led to school lockdowns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. Department of Justice\u2019s swift action in response to NSBA\u2019s request is a strong message to individuals with violent intent who are focused on causing chaos, disrupting our public schools, and driving wedges between school boards and the parents, students, and communities they serve,\u201d Slaven said. \u201cWe need to get back to the work of meeting all students\u2019 needs and making sure that each student is prepared for a successful future.
