Authorities are still investigating the shooting, which happened at 1:45 p.m. local time on Friday, on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 43rd Street.<\/p>\n<p>The Illinois State Police has not released any further information regarding the shooting, saying the investigation is still in its early stages. The fallen trooper has been identified by local reports as 35-year-old Gerald Mason.<\/p>\n<p>The incident comes the same day the ISP doubled its troop presence on expressways amid an uptick of shootings.
