All 48 Senate Democrats and the two independent senators who caucus with the party voted in favor of Stone-Manning\u2019s nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which oversees 245 million acres of public lands.<\/p>\n<p>Two former high-ranking BLM officials that served under former President Barack Obama\u2019s administration, including Obama\u2019s first director of the agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/18\/bob-abbey-tracy-stone-manning-disqualify\/\">Bob Abbey<\/a>, came out against Stone-Manning\u2019s confirmation prior to Thursday\u2019s vote, saying her involvement in the eco-terrorism case should be disqualifying.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Caller News Foundation first <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/11\/tracy-stone-manning-tree-spiking-bureau-land-management\/\">reported<\/a> the contents of an anonymous and threatening letter Stone-Manning sent to the Forest Service in 1989 on behalf of John P. Blount, her former roommate and friend, warning that a local forest in Idaho had been sabotaged with tree spikes to make the trees unsafe to log. Stone-Manning received legal immunity to testify against Blount in a 1993 criminal trial, resulting in his conviction and a 17-month prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Stone-Manning has since described Blount as a \u201crather disturbed\u201d and \u201cfrankly, frightening\u201d person, and she said she waited over three years to inform authorities that she sent the threatening letter on his behalf because she was scared he would threaten her life.<\/p>\n<p>Blount told the DCNF during an extensive phone interview in August that he resents the way Stone-Manning describes their relationship. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/08\/10\/john-blount-friendly-tracy-stone-manning-tree-spiking\/\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Convicted Eco-Saboteur Disputes Biden Land Management Nominee\u2019s Characterization Of Their Relationship)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew who Tracy was. Didn\u2019t know her well. (Screenshot)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Stone-Manning told the Senate Energy Committee in writing in May that she had never been the target of a federal criminal investigation, but the lead Forest Service investigator in the case, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/15\/michael-merkley-stone-manning-tree-spiking-letter\/\">Michael Merkley<\/a>, informed the committee in June that the nominee was one step away from being indicted on criminal charges in 1993 for her \u201cactive participation in planning these crimes\u201d before she lawyered up and received an immunity deal.<\/p>\n<p>Merkley, now retired from the Forest Service, reiterated his account in a Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/forest-service-investigator-biden-blm-nominee-eco-terrorists\">op-ed<\/a> Thursday, writing that Stone-Manning \u201cconcealed a felony\u201d by holding out for three years before coming clean to authorities about her involvement in the eco-terrorism plot.
