If the bipartisan infrastructure bill is passed on its own on Thursday, this will be in violation of an agreement that was reached within the Democratic Caucus in Congress,\u201d Sen. Sanders tweeted. \u201cMore importantly, it will end all leverage that we have to pass a major reconciliation bill. That means there will be no serious effort to address the long-neglected crises facing the working families of our country, the children, the elderly, the sick and the poor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt also means that Congress will continue to ignore the existential threat to our country and planet with regard to climate change,\u201d the senator continued. \u201cI strongly urge my House colleagues to vote against the bipartisan infrastructure bill until Congress passes a strong reconciliation bill.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.1428571428571\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I strongly urge my House colleagues to vote against the bipartisan infrastructure bill until Congress passes a strong reconciliation bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSanders\/status\/1442929430117044224?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 28, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In August, Sen. Sanders voted in favor of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which passed 69 votes to 30 in the U.S. Senate. The senator\u2019s latest comments followed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/pelosi-says-biden-s-infrastructure-bill-cannot-wait-social-safety-n1280215\"><span>news<\/span><\/a><span> that House Speaker <\/span><span>Nancy Pelosi<\/span><span> reportedly told fellow Democrats during a private caucus meeting that a vote on the infrastructure bill cannot be held up by the reconciliation package.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cShe conceded that the final reconciliation package <\/span><span>would not be ready by Thursday<\/span><span> \u2014 when the House is set to vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill \u2014 despite previous promises that the two crucial pieces of legislation would be passed together,\u201d reported <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/574347-sanders-urges-house-democrats-to-vote-against-infrastructure-bill-before\">The Hill<\/a>. \u201cShe specifically said the Senate\u2019s demand that the price tag of the $3.5 trillion package \u2018had to come down\u2019 threw the timing in question.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last week, Sanders joined ten Democratic Senators who issued a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/finance\/budget\/573466-11-senators-urge-house-to-stick-with-plan-to-pass-35t-package-before\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> \u201curging party leadership to stay on course with its original \u2018dual track\u2019 plan to pass a $3.5 trillion social spending bill in both chambers before taking up a bipartisan infrastructure deal in the House.\u201d In addition to Senate Budget Committee Chairman Sanders, Sens. Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Mazie Horono and Elizabeth Warren were among those who issued the statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCongress must not undercut the president\u2019s proposals that will create new opportunities for America\u2019s families and workers,\u201d they said. \u201cThe House of Representatives should wait to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill until the budget reconciliation bill, which enacts the rest of the President\u2019s Build Back Better agenda, is sent to the president\u2019s desk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Meanwhile, as The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senator-toomey-democrats-dont-need-a-single-republican-vote-to-pass-their-3-5-trillion-bill\"><span>Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span> reported, \u201c<\/span><span>Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told CNN\u2019s Jake Tapper on \u2018State of the Union\u2019 on Sunday that Republicans will not be voting for Democrats\u2019 $3.5 trillion social spending bill and that Democrats do not need Republicans to be able to pass the bill.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI will certainly be voting no if the Democrats insist on combining the debt ceiling increase or suspension with the continuing operations of the government,\u201d Toomey said. \u201cAnd there is no calamity that\u2019s going to happen, Jake. If that were even a serious risk, don\u2019t you think the equity markets from last week, rather than fully recovering after the scare that came out of Evergrande in China, rather than fully recovering, as they did, maybe they would have traded off?
