According to rhetoric from the White House, it\u2019s clear Biden is in favor of the potential for U.S. Military members to be dishonorably discharged for resisting the order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has mandated COVID-19 vaccines for all U.S. service members and the Pentagon has declared it a lawful order,\u201d Fox4KC <a href=\"https:\/\/fox4kc.com\/news\/kansas-senators-bill-would-block-dishonorable-discharge-for-refusing-vaccine\/\">outlined<\/a>. \u201cBut recent communication from the Executive Office of the White House has some lawmakers worried they could be dishonorably discharged for failing to get the vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A section of the House\u2019s proposed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) \u201cwould bar dishonorable discharges for not getting the vaccine <strong>but the White House said that \u2018would limit a commander\u2019s options for enforcing good order and discipline when a service member fails to obey a lawful order to receive a vaccination<\/strong>,&#8217;\u201d the report added (emphasis added).<\/p>\n<p>Last week, GOP Sens. Ted Cruz (TX), James Lankford (OK), and Roger Marshall (KS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/service-members-honorable-discharge-gop-bill-refuse-covid-vaccine-cruz-2021-9\">introduced<\/a> the&nbsp;\u201cCOVID-19 Vaccine Dishonorable Discharge Prevention Act,\u201d seeking to block any attempts to dishonorably discharge U.S. Military members who refuse the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[A] member of an Armed Force under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of a military department subject to discharge on the basis of the member choosing not to receive the COVID\u201319 vaccine may only receive an honorable discharge,\u201d the bill text reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an insult to our servicemen and women who have served with honor to dishonorably discharge them for refusing the COVID vaccine,\u201d Cruz said. \u201cIt is the same way we dishonorably discharge those convicted of serious crimes such as treason, desertion, sexual assault, and murder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marshall noted that a dishonorable discharge would strip a service member of their Second Amendment rights and other opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have a dishonorable discharge will take away your Second Amendment, it\u2019s going to keep you from accessing the educational opportunities the military affords as well as access to the VA for your healthcare. So this is a big big deal if you are in the military right now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no question about it: American heroes should not be treated as felons because of their personal medical choices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City, Kansas, Attorney Joe DeWoskin <a href=\"https:\/\/fox4kc.com\/news\/kansas-senators-bill-would-block-dishonorable-discharge-for-refusing-vaccine\/\">told<\/a> Fox4KC&nbsp;that \u201cthe tens of thousands of service members who could refuse the vaccine would have to be court martialed. That would be numerous trials, requiring convictions and sentences, if superiors chose to file charges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith, a Democrat, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/service-members-honorable-discharge-gop-bill-refuse-covid-vaccine-cruz-2021-9\">told<\/a> the Military Times it\u2019s \u201cbaffling\u201d to him that some service members might not want to be vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is just baffling that service members don\u2019t sign up for that,\u201d he said. \u201cYou put your life on the line to protect the country, but you won\u2019t take a shot to protect the country?
