They resided in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Union-Tribune, \u201cThe pair fell from the third level concourse \u2013 the equivalent of six stories high \u2013 to the sidewalk below on Tony Gwynn Drive,\u201d citing information provided by San Diego Police Department Lt. Andra Brown. \u201cWhile efforts were made to resuscitate the woman and child, it quickly became apparent that neither had survived the fall,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the child\u2019s father was at the stadium at the time, adding that the mother and her son had been at a concession area before falling to their deaths. Authorities reportedly said the incident \u201cappeared to be suspicious.\u201d They are looking into whether the fall was an accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a horrible, horrible thing,\u201d said Lt. Brown. \u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re giving it a very serious look.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Bates, a Padres fan who spoke to CBS8, said, \u201cI heard she tried to save her son, but how can a son fall over a rail? It\u2019s pretty much impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, San Diego Democratic Mayor Todd Gloria <a href=\"https:\/\/fox5sandiego.com\/news\/local-news\/its-horrifically-tragic-gloria-reacts-to-deadly-fall-at-petco-park\/\">told FOX 5<\/a> that he had been \u201cfully briefed\u201d by the police department, describing the situation as \u201chorrifically tragic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of unusual circumstances around the case that we continue to investigate,\u201d said Gloria. \u201cIt is suspicious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gloria said that \u201cthere were several witnesses who were there who were clearly traumatized,\u201d but \u201cunfortunately no cameras.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Union-Tribune reported, \u201cSeveral people who said they witnessed the fall were too shaken to talk,\u201d and:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p><em>A man who did not wish to be identified said his wife witnessed the fall. She told him that it appeared a toddler fell from an area with picnic tables, and the woman also fell while trying to grab the child.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A woman who declined to give her name told the Union-Tribune she was walking across the Omni hotel footbridge leading to the ballpark when the incident occurred and didn\u2019t see the fall. She said her husband witnessed a woman and child going over \u201cthe side from the third floor of Petco\u201d outside Section 316.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Padres franchise issued a statement on Sunday morning and indicated the organization would not comment further as law enforcement continues to investigate the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply saddened by the loss of life at Petco Park last evening,\u201d the statement said. \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the family of those involved.
