Many Medicare recipients already have and can afford private dental coverage, according to the group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere aren\u2019t endless amounts of federal dollars, so the question is how do you maximize dollars to do the most good?\u201d ADA Senior Vice President for Government and Public Affairs Michael Graham told the WSJ. \u201cIf you don\u2019t focus on low-income seniors, you are just wasting your money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ADA has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ada.org\/en\/press-room\/news-releases\/2021-archives\/august\/medicare-dental-benefit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> before&nbsp;that a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/15\/medicare-social-security-trust-funds-congress\/\">Medicare<\/a> expansion should include seniors who are up to 300% of the federal poverty level, approximately 47% of all American seniors. (Spencer Platt\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In August, Senate Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/MEMORANDUM%20for%20Democratic%20Senators%20-%20FY2022%20Budget%20Resolution.pdf\">released<\/a> their <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/15\/democrats-republicans-tax-increases-budget-reconciliation-inflation-unemployment-rate-economy\/\">budget proposal<\/a>, which continues to make its way through Congress. The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/20\/senate-parliamentarian-blocks-pathway-citizenship-democrats-budget\/\">proposal<\/a> included offering dental, vision and hearing benefits to Medicare recipients and lowering the eligibility age to qualify.<\/p>\n<p>Dental care would begin in 2028 while vision and hearing benefits would begin in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The cost of the expansion is about $358 billion over a ten-year period, the majority of which would go towards dental, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2019-12\/hr3_complete.pdf#page=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to a 2019 Congressional Budget Office report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDental care is a medical necessity, and I\u2019m happy to see the door open to adding it to Medicare,\u201d National Dental Association (NDA) member and former ADA president Dr. Raymond Gist told the WSJ.<\/p>\n<p>The NDA, a majority-black dentists group, has <a href=\"https:\/\/ndaonline.org\/nda-supports-comprehensive-dental-coverage-for-all-medicare-beneficiaries-in-medicare-part-b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">endorsed<\/a> the Medicare expansion, along with other medical groups and senior associations. But the ADA is considerably more powerful on Capitol Hill, spending more than $2.3 million in campaign contributions last year, data compiled by OpenSecrets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/political-action-committees-pacs\/american-dental-assn\/C00000729\/summary\/2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">showed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy concern is that once policy makers see any opposition to something with a big price tag, it gives them a reason to eliminate it from consideration,\u201d Gist continued, according to the WSJ.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
