Officers said 21-year-old Aaron Lowe was fatally shot early Sunday morning after police received a report of a fight involving a weapon. They said officers received an additional call from a person who heard gunshots.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe do know that Mr. Lowe was attending this house party when these unknown individuals came to the house. They were asked to leave by people who were hosting the party. That\u2019s when there was a disturbance and that is when there was the shooting that occurred.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2014 Brent Weisberg, spokesperson \u2013 Salt Lake City Police Dept.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A woman was also shot and transported to an area hospital where she remained in critical condition. Lowe, however, was pronounced dead on the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The incident comes less than a year after Lowe\u2019s friend and teammate, Ty Jordan, was killed in an accidental shooting. Lowe, a defensive back, was the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship and changed his jersey number to play in honor of his friend this season.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe are devastated by the loss of Aaron Lowe earlier this morning,\u201d said Utah Athletic Director Mark Harland. \u201cAaron was a terrific young man, a leader on our football team, and a rock of resiliency and courage. Our prayers are with Aaron\u2019s family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved him.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lowe was starting his third season at the school, appearing in Utah\u2019s first four games of the 2021 season. Several shared their condolences as the football community mourns over the players passing, including Utah Coach Kyle Whittingham, Gov. Spencer Cox (R-Utah), the chief of police and several teammates.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Abby and I mourn with our <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UUtah?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UUtah<\/a> family and friends at the tragic passing of Aaron Lowe this morning.
