Clearly, despite your best efforts, millions of people end up in this country and don\u2019t \u2013 just disappear,\u201d Wallace objected.<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas argued that was simply proof that the immigration system was broken and in need of legislative reform.<\/p>\n<p>Wallace then pivoted to the situation in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/border-patrol-union-del-rio-requested-aid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Del Rio, Texas<\/a>, where thousands of migrants had crossed a dam into the United States and congregated under a bridge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHasn\u2019t this administration created a magnet?\u201d Wallace asked, pressing Mayorkas on Biden\u2019s immigration policies. \u201cHaven\u2019t you given them a reason to believe there\u2019s a reasonable chance if they come into this country, they will end up being released into the country and have months or perhaps years to stay here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayorkas continued to push back, saying that there had been similar surges at the border in 2019 and even prior to that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has gotten worse. The statistics of your own department show that the flood of people coming illegally across the border has gotten worse under the Biden administration,\u201d Wallace continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t call it a flood, if I may,\u201d Mayorkas objected, prompting Wallace to ask,&nbsp;\u201cWhat would you call it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen large numbers of individuals encountered at our border making a claim for asylum, for humanitarian relief,\u201d Mayorkas said, repeating his claim that similar surges had come to the border in years past under both Republican and Democratic administrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou say 30,000 people walked across that dam into Del Rio in the last 17 days. Question: Why didn\u2019t you stop them?\u201d Wallace pressed again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encounter them at the border. That\u2019s where we encounter them, Chris,\u201d Mayorkas replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy didn\u2019t you stop them from coming into the country?\u201d Wallace asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did,\u201d Mayorkas insisted. \u201cWe encountered them, they gathered \u2013 they assembled in that one location in Del Rio, Texas, and we applied the laws. We applied the public health law under the CDC\u2019s authority, and we applied immigration \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace did not let the question go, asking again, \u201cMy question is why did you allow them in the country in the first place?
