On Saturday, he once again shared his faith in explicit terms.<\/p>\n<p>As first reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/denzel-washington-reveals-what-gods-been-telling-him-to-do.html\">The Christian Post<\/a>, the two-time Oscar winner was a featured speaker at the \u201cBetter Man Event\u201d\u2014a religious convention hosted by First Baptist Orlando in Florida. There he told the crowd of fathers, sons, and husbands, \u201cThe world has changed. What is our role as a man? The John Wayne formula is not quite a fit right now. But strength, leadership, power, authority, guidance, patience are God\u2019s gift to us as men. We have to cherish that, not abuse it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Washington also shared some advice for men seeking success: \u201cStay on your knees. Watch me but listen to God,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cI hope that the words in my mouth and the meditation of my heart are pleasing in God\u2019s sight, but I\u2019m human. I\u2019m just like you. What I have will not keep me on this Earth for one more day. Share what you know, inspire who you can, seek advice. If you want to talk to one someone, talk to the one that can do something about it. Constantly develop those habits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At one point, the 66-year-old challenged the young people present to resist the selfishness of our present age, saying, \u201c[The Bible] says in the last days we\u2019ll become lovers of ourselves. The number one photograph now is a selfie. So we all want to lead. We\u2019re willing to do anything \u2014 ladies and young men \u2014 to be influential.\u201d He continued, \u201cFame is a monster and we all have these ladders and battles, roads we have to walk in our given lives. Be you famous or whoever\u2019s out there listening, we all have our individual challenges. It\u2019s clich\u00e9 [but] money, don\u2019t make it better. It doesn\u2019t. Fame just magnifies the problems and the opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The star of such films as \u201cGlory\u201d and \u201cTraining Day\u201d is known for cutting against the Hollywood grain, not only in his faith, but also in his willingness to buck cultural trends.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/denzel-washington-dont-blame-system-black-amanda-prestigiacomo\">said<\/a> fatherlessness was more to blame for the incarceration rate in the black community than systemic racism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt starts at the home,\u201d he said while promoting a film about a criminal attorney. \u201cIt starts with how you raise your children. If a young man doesn\u2019t have a father figure, he\u2019ll go find a father figure.\u201d He then added, \u201cSo you know I can\u2019t blame the system. It\u2019s unfortunate that we make such easy work for them. I grew up with guys who did decades [in prison], and it had as much to do with their fathers not being in their lives as it did to do with any system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, in 2021, Washington refused to join other stars in Hollywood disparaging cops and calling for police departments to be abolished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have the utmost respect for what [the police] do, for what our soldiers do, [people] that sacrifice their lives,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/denzel-washington-has-the-utmost-respect-for-police-officers-soldiers\">said<\/a>. \u201cI just don\u2019t care for people who put those kind of people down.
