They also suggest that they are pressuring other airlines to join an industry-wide \u201cno-fly\u201d list effort so as to prevent passengers banned from Delta from seeking out other travel options.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21\">\n<p><em>At Delta, we now have more than 1,600 people on our \u201cno fly\u201d list, and we\u2019ve submitted more than 600 banned names to the FAA in 2021 as part of their Special Emphasis Enforcement Program. We\u2019ve also asked other airlines to share their \u201cno fly\u201d list to further protect airline employees across the industry \u2013 something we know is top of mind for employees as well. A list of banned customers doesn\u2019t work as well if that customer can fly with another airline.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The memos were sent the same day the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation &amp; Infrastructure held a hearing titled, \u201cDisruption in the Skies: The Surge in Air Rage and its Effects on Workers, Airlines, and Airports.\u201d Airlines for America (A4A), which represents Delta, urged stronger actions from federal agencies and authorities.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/delta-air-lines-national-no-fly-list-ban-unruly-passengers-2021-9?nr_email_referer=1&amp;utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=Business_Insider_select&amp;pt=385758&amp;ct=Sailthru_BI_Newsletters&amp;mt=8&amp;utm_campaign=Insider%20Select%202021-09-24&amp;utm_term=INSIDER%20SELECT%20-%20ENGAGED%2C%20ACTIVE%2C%20PASSIVE%2C%20DISENGAGED%2C%20NEW\">Business Insider<\/a>, the vast majority of \u201cunruly passenger incidents\u201d reported to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were over customers refusing to wear face masks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA recorded 4,385 unruly passenger incidents between January and September 2021, according to the agency\u2019s website. More than 3,000 of those reports were related to passengers refusing to wear a mask, it says. It has initiated nearly 800 investigations \u2014 far more than any other year since 1995, it says. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those incidents related to masking, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/know-airline-mask-rules-flying-162445788.html\">Business Insider reported earlier this year<\/a>, do not need to be violent to be considered the result of an \u201cunruly passenger.\u201d Because most airlines require masks on board, a passenger could potentially run afoul of the rule and be removed from a&nbsp;flight if flight attendants simply \u201csuspect that [the passenger is] intentionally and repeatedly running afoul of mask policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAirlines may also ban passengers that repeatedly disobey flight attendant instructions to mask up,\u201d the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>At least in part, this seems to indicate that Delta Airlines is looking for an industry-wide ban on customers who refuse to wear masks on planes, though it is not clear that the science supports universal masking on modes of transportation, that the airlines have uniform COVID-19 restrictions, or that airlines have the authority to lock Americans out of air travel altogether.<\/p>\n<p>There are, in fact, potential legal issues with an entire industry locking out customers, members of the House Transportation Committee pointed out Thursday, but Oregon Democrat Rep. Peter DeFazio had an ever stranger solution: allowing the FAA to create a \u201cno-fly\u201d list of \u201cunruly passengers,\u201d many of whom are guilty only of defying airlines\u2019 COVID-19 rules.<\/p>\n<p>An FAA no-fly list for unruly passengers is particularly fraught, especially given that the existing no-fly list, which is supposed to include individuals suspected of being tied to terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cno-fly list,\u201d which is separate from the \u201cterrorist watch list\u201d had, at last count, around 45,000 names, but individuals are not informed when they are placed on the federal \u201cno-fly list,\u201d and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/know-your-rights\/what-do-if-you-think-youre-no-fly-list\">complicated appeals process requires<\/a>&nbsp;passengers to first be denied boarding, then initiate an inquiry, then petition the government for redress.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice also noted that there is already an enforcement schematic in place for individuals who are alleged to have interfered with flight crew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Justice Department spokesman said that interference with flight crew members was a federal offense that can result in a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison,\u201d Business Insider noted.<\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
