Democrats on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/21\/democrats-scrap-1-billion-israeli-defense-funding-bill-doomed-iron-dome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">omitted the provision<\/a> from their <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/21\/house-democrats-pass-government-funding-debt-ceiling-bill-dead-on-arrival-senate-shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stopgap spending bill<\/a> at the last minute, after members of the party\u2019s left wing objected to it, delaying the pivotal vote for hours.<\/p>\n<p>The aid replenishes the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/11\/iron-dome-tel-aviv-israel-barrage-hamas-islamic-jihad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iron Dome<\/a>, a purely defensive system engineered to intercept rockets fired toward the country. Both Republicans and moderate Democrats called for Thursday\u2019s vote after the initial omission, even as some on the left objected to the measure for the United States\u2019 top Middle Eastern ally.<\/p>\n<p>Members of both parties urged support for the bill ahead of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Iron Dome is a purely defensive system that has saved thousands of lives in Israel,\u201d Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on the House floor. \u201cIsrael\u2019s security is imperative to America\u2019s security. I urge a strong bipartisan vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael is arguably our most reliable ally in the world,\u201d said California Republican Rep. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Democrats who voted against the bill, however, sought to tie the funding to Israel\u2019s actions against Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan vowed to vote against the legislation because of the \u201cwar crimes\u201d Israel has committed and its \u201capartheid system,\u201d urging her colleagues to vote against it. But her speech drew a sharp rebuke, including from members of her own party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot allow one of my colleagues to stand on the floor of the House of Representatives and label the Jewish democratic state of Israel as an \u2018apartheid state,\u2019\u201d said Democratic Rep. Ted Deutch of Florida, who was followed by bipartisan applause.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats initially planned to put the funding in the National Defense Authorization Act before unveiling the standalone legislation. The NDAA is also set to pass on Thursday, just as it has for almost six consecutive decades.<\/p>\n<p>The standalone bill now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to pass easily.
